In any case, my system isn't as good as I'd wish, but good enough to run Doom3 at the highest resolution. I just wasn't impressed with the game. They wasted too much time on shadows and not enough on textures. Half Life 2 is far superior, in my opinion.

It was a valid question when it comes to Doom3. Anyways, through your answer, I found no answer.

Comparing HL2 to D3 is meaningless on every level except gameplay.

Not really. The I felt the textures were better. In any case, the way the characters were rendered was also superior to Doom3.

The question I asked was what your system specs were. Is it a secret?

You said you can run the game at "the highest resolution", and since there are very few machines that can do this (it can be run way beyond 1600x1200) at ultra quality, I would like to know if you have a Cray or something.

As with Q3 at the time, the right computer for the D3 job isn't quite here yet, unlike HL2, which can be seen in it's full glory on older hardware. So, I will save the objective for when that time comes and leave the subjective alone.

I have had the pepsi/coke debate one too many times (the last time being with Hank Scorpio) to care what people think about what regarding games. The fact is that both games are entirely unique from the ground up, and they are both fine examples of very different genres, among many, many other things.

Sure, it runs at the highest resolution for the size of my monitor. I'm now limited to a 19 inch monitor, but the bigger monitor that I had when I played Doom 3 was good enough get to 1600x1200. Of course, it's all about preference. Does that make me wrong? Doom3 was too dark. The story line wasn't all that interesting, either. Different genres? Aren't they both first person shooters? Again, I'm not talking about the engines, but the game itself (I don't disagree that the Doom3 engine has some advantages over the Source engine). Of course, I'll be buying Quake 4, which I hear won't be limiting the player to dark cramped corridors like Doom3.

Dude...can I ask the same question again?!? What are your system specs...from one user to another..

What's with the heavy reactionary bit? Relax...I originally just asked a question.

Some 19 inch (crt) monitors are capable of 2048 x 1536...you want me to believe this is what you were running it at?

Ok...within the FPS...horror, arcade, stealth, etc... sheesh....

Bigger than 19 inch (crt) maxing out at 1600x1200?!

Please don't tell me you played it on an LCD and found it dark.... Laughing

whatever. Rolling Eyes

Geeze, I was just pulling your leg. I didn't feel like going down the path you seemed to be wanting to take. Arguing about computers is better left at 13 year-olds. Sorry if I misjudged you. In any case, I had a 20 inch CRT. It's top resolution was 1920x1440, but I found I got better image quality at 1600x1200. It crapped out on me and they couldn't fix it (couldn't get the parts, for some reason, and it was a Samsung). I just didn't feel like spending close to a million to replace it. Got an 18 inch CRT right now. Not nearly as good, but it was the right price (dirt cheap). As for my system: 3GHz CPU, overclocked. 1Gig RAM. 128MB graphics, firewire card, DVD, usual stuff. Actually, I got two sytems connected together (Master/Slave LAN connection).
