Seneca taught Nero. Nero repaid him by making him commit suicide. |

People have a dark side...absolutely... As the bible says: "The heart of man is desperately wicked-who can know it?"
We have depths that most of us never plumb, thanks to the veneer of civilisation. We are also capable of great good:
The basic problem is that goodness is seen as weakness, and taken advantage of- so people stop making the effort-it doesn't reward them. |

Spin it. The dark side makes the world more appealing. The devil in us iz faaaar cooler than anything else. Darkness, rage mean, anger and hurt are the most interesting parts. If they dominate yer existence, yer screwed. But, hell, life ain't a bowl of cream. The good is the greater, but we're all too stoopid to understand the difference between the greater depth of good, and the shallow attraction of cool.
Do you really want to be a sunbeam for jeezuz? I do, but He don't seem to want that. So what's left? What's good?
Can't get no...
Can't get no...
Can't get no...
...satisfaction. |

Maybe there is a touch of evil in all of us, and maybe certain experiences we have bring it out to the point where we can't controll it. Most of us are lucky in that regard. Still i'm wondering if it's by the grace of something beyond us that we all aren't subject to experiences that connect with our darker sides until they become our real selves.
I seem to remember reading that "Mengle" had a priviledged upbringing, but that his homelife was as cold without love and warmth whatsoever. Have heard of families totally cold that it was inevitable that their offspring would be lucky to have a glimmer of humanity left in their lives when they matured. Professional studies on seemingly normal people have been concluded with "they are evil". Exterior wise normal, and underneath nothing sinister or macabre, but still evil. |

Woman sinned first.
Eve led Adam down the rabbit hole.
It's true, Corporal, it's true. |

After world war 11 the victors hung the one's from the losing side whom they considered evil. If the germans and the Japanese had been the victors I am sure they would have had good reason to hang some of our allied military leaders as well. |

New orleans is a good case in point: a brief absence of law and order and people took advantage of what they could. looting, shooting, raping etc- strong takes advantage of weak.
Human nature is pretty sad bacause we are aware of what is right and wrong: its just more exciting and often more individually rewarding to do what is wrong.
Injustice and inequality is the massive reality of life on earth. Although equality and justice are illusions, it ennobles the spirit to try to achieve them. |

Have anyone read "wild at heart" by John Eldridge or "Captivating" by his wife? Both books talk a lot on woman sinning first. They are both good reads.
As for the original post, I usually refer to this scripture when I am feeling to holier than though. It brings me back to reality fairly quick. I once was this fool.
1 The fool has said in his heart,
There is no God.
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
2 The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
3 They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call on the Lord?
Psalms 14
Basically, man is born as a sinner and there is only one way to freedom.

What do you mean by illusions? Do you not think we will never achieve a place of justice and equality? |
