or don't get one at all if you don't think you can keep it for its lifetime.

Thanks for your advice, duelly noted, now run along and play. I am an adult capable of making my own mind up thanks. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, okay. My bad. I'm sorry that I'm trying to save you money (more than you know as a lot of the cats from 湫 (Chungmuro) come with a host of health problems, along with their nice little price tags), as well as trying to save perfectly healthy cats from early deaths.

I actually know more than I wish I did about why NOT to buy a pet from a petstore, especially a petstore in Korea.

You may be an adult, but you don't come off as all that mature in this particular thread. Anyway, I'm off to play with my little 湫 500,000W+ in vet bills mistake of a mongrel. He sure is cute though. Very Happy

I just don't like the commanding tones. Instead of saying 'don't do that' you could have suggested nicely, and maybe added the information you just did. I'm not after a preloved or abandonded pet, I like to raise my cats myself without the behavioural difficulties they are prone to developing when treated bad. Following on from your logic, if everyone goes and gets a pet from the shelter, who will take care of the ones in the pet stores? Don't they need a little love too?

Would you like to adopt one from a shelter in Daegu? If you do, I can give you directions on how to get to it. We got ours from the shelter. She is really cute.

I apologise for my commanding tone. I know what you mean, but I really didn't mean it like that -- just a gut reaction after reading so many posts by people who want to give their cats away because they are leaving Korea, etc.

As far as my logic goes -- if everyone goes and get a pet from a shelter, petstores will realize that there is no money in breeding and selling pets, and the awful pet mill industry will shut down. This isn't just my logic -- if you look on any pet site the first advice you will find about getting a new pet is to either rescue a pet from a shelter, or buy from a breeder. Buying from a petstore is never recommended.

In my case, I knew this but couldn't find any shelters in Korea (I looked, but didn't ask on this website as I didn't know how to become a user Embarassed ). I was also looking for a specific breed due to allergies, and thought the chances of me finding one were slim. I guess I thought that living in Korea gave me a special reason not to worry about the morality of buying a pet from a petstore.

My tiny poodle puppy seemed to be in great condition when I bought him, and the vet agreed. Except, the vet said I was lied to about his age, and he was barely weaned! This made him extra susceptible to illness, and he ended up getting a very bad cold two days after I brought him home. This cold lasted for over a month, and I believe I went to the vet almost 20 times (sometimes he needed daily inhaler treatments). In addition, he ended up having ear mites that were passed to him from his mother. Oh yeah, and he's twice as big as they said he'd be!!! At this point he is very healthy and well-adjusted (there is something nice about raising a pet from infancy, I know), and his size has turned out appropriate for our lifestyle. But I still have to recommend not buying from a Korean petstore.

Anyway, again I apologise for my earlier tone.

I hope you find a lovely, healthy kitten soon.

I second and third what Casey's Moon and Tommynomad said. "Responsible adults" don't patronize pet stores and contribute to more breeding.

What line is that on?

line 6 Noksapyoung Station... if you're looking for a long hair... most of the kittens there at the moment are Persian Classics. I got my Persians from there, and they're all healthy. And come with all the paperwork.
check out the site http://www.giocat.com/

this kitten is a real cutie
