| I too am studying at yonsei in the daytime program. Really heavy on grammar but I find myslef being able to speak a lot more these days. Of course I have a Korean boyfriend and lots of Korean friends so that helps a lot. I have had friends who have studied at Sogang and Ehwa as well. Those are more focused on speaking than Yonsei. I guess it depends on your learning style. And if you have people to practice with at night. Though we speak a lot during class. And I love my teachers. Good luck! |

| I agree with Superhero about the YBM classes. I took a month of it. No good. We were supposed to memorized page long dialogues that we didn't understand. Then, he was telling us to talk louder and faster...always louder and faster. Ugh. Also, when we didn't show up for the last few days he called us to bug us about not being in class and to encourage us to sign up for the next month. He called several times, bring quite pushy. No thanks. I think I'm gonna try Pagoda or maybe Ewha next time. |

Does anybody know if either University offers Korean lessons on the weekends? Also, is Ehwa open to males as well or is it limited to females only?
Thanks |
As far as weekends go, I've started going to Onuri Church's (in DongbuIchonDong) Saturday classes. These are run by a bunch of KSL Professors, mostly from Ǵ I think, but also some from other universities. They are running it as a ministry, which is strange, since I've never heard any of them get preachy, so the result is it's cheap. 10000 won for 7 weeks. 2 hrs a day on saturday.
They are quite friendly, but I just started, and was pretty fluent when I first went, so I really haven't had a chance to evaluate the program. Seems good though. And there are free snacks.
The next semester starts on 12 march I believe, and it will be on the third floor of the smaller building. Go up and you'll see the signs. Class is 11-1, and they usually take whoever wants to go out to lunch, which means free language practice with some very pleasent people. |

Do any of you have a site and any other info regarding the SNU program that you could forward me (To be honest, I don't even know where SNU is!)
I'm really looking to study Korean somewhere this semester, and the only programs I've heard about are Ehwa and that Lingua-Express deal at Sookmyung (For anyone who took this program, Do you recommend it?)
thanks |

Seoul's evening program.
I'm currently taking the sookmyung course at the moment, though I have been off for a week due to sickness. I prefer the seoul one for a couple of reasons.
1. Seoul only meets twice a week. As i live in the boonies this cuts down on my travel time.
2. Seoul covers less material, but it covers it far more throughly. I found that sookmyung just goes to fast for my liking and I don't feel like I'm retaining as much as I did at the Seoul program.
The next round of classes is starting soon. |

Interesting, my experience with YBM was much better. It must depend on the teacher you get. My teacher had us do a pretty wide variety of activities in each class, and never bugged us about attendance or re-enrollment. My only complaint was the choral repetition of dialogues which seemed like a waste of time but that was never more than a few minutes per class.
Anyway, don't bother with Pagoda. I don't think they even offer Korean classes anymore. I know they cancelled the ones at Jongno and Shinchon due to lack of interest. |
