I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing delays with their ARC processing? The Incheon Immigration office told my boss yesterday that my ARC would require an additional two weeks to process. I don't know if it was a typical bureaucratic snafu or if its related to the bad press and crackdowns...

Did your boss tell you this or show you the receipt from immigration which includes the pick-up date for your ARC and passport?

They told me it would take an extra week, due to the gov't not getting out enough arc blanks to them.

When I went to Immigration with my boss, they told him it wasn't ready and changed the date on my receipt.

It probably is not going to help matters that immigration is transitioning to a five-day work week. Went there today, door was open, but they were not processing applications or extensions.... Evil or Very Mad

I renewed my ARC in about forty minutes a couple of weeks ago. The smoothest that I have ever experienced in Korea.

I had to drop off the ARC and passport a couple of days ago to add a part time employment, but that will take a week. That's normal.

This is in Seoul, however, not Inchon.

I take it you're not on an E-2?

Yes, you NEED this reciept in case you get in trouble with the police and have no passport or ARC to show for it.

Man, I'd be raising cane.

Just your standard one year visa for a US citizen. I never can remember if it's E2 or E4. It's at immigration right now getting the additional employment so I can't look. Sorry.

Which immigration office? What employment? Standard teaching Visa? Or otherwise? What is your FT job, and where is the PT job you're attempting to add? Are the companies related in any way?

Some of us are trying to get a handle on inconsistencies of what extra work immigration will approve or not.

Jezuz, I feel like I'm getting the third degree.

Which immigration office?
The immigration office is near Omokyo Station in Seoul. As far as I know, it's the office everyone in Seoul has to go to to process the paperwork. When I worked at a hogwan in Kangnam, I had to go there, too.

What employment?
I'm doing a part time job with Korea Digital University. I did the same job last year and had no trouble getting the addition. When I worked at Sogang U. a couple of summers ago, I went to the same place. The only hassle is you have to wait a week, unlike the standard visa that I was able to process immediatly. (When I first came to Korea eight years ago, we had to wait a week for the standard visa, too.)

Standard teaching Visa? Or otherwise?
Yes, standard teaching visa - the same kind I had when I worked at hogwans. Like I said before, I never can remember what the number is, but it's always a multiple entry visa.

What is your FT job,
I teach full time at Hanyang University. As long as it doesn't interfere with my regular job, Hanyang is very amenable to allowing additional employment.

Are the companies related in any way?
No connection to the companies (universities, not companies), but the person that asked me to work for KDU used to work at Hanyang and knows what an excellent job I do. Wink

Sorry... don't mean to sound mean. Smile

Since you are working between two Universities, it makes sense.

The reason I am so curious is that there seems to be a blanket, "NO!" statement given by immigration, regardless of the situation.

But if you actually go there and fill out the forms, there appears to be more of a chance in University situations, for example.

Basically, you're looking at a guy here who is desperately trying to obtain a 2nd LEGAL job, and has been denied thusfar. If I worked at a University, I could do it, I'm sure.
