I didn't feel the vibe today or the day before, so perhaps it's faded from view already. That's good.

My spider sense hasn't tingled all weekend either. Though, to be honest, I stayed home all weekend.

On the subway on the way to the bookstore I was definately feeling a negative vibe, so I suppose it has seeped its way into the majority, or at least a large number. This vibe is like an instant of...disgust or bitterness? It's just for a moment, and then it vanishes. There's no difference on my home page or board, or with people I work withor anything, but on the subway it's a different matter. On the subway I can feel when people want to practice English on me before I see them, or when somebody is going to say 'excuse me' as they walk by (in spite of the great distance from me), or when a kid is worth making faces at, or when an old man wants to come over and give a lecture on something.

Perhaps it was just a one-time thing, a coincidence? I've been riding the subway every day for the past three months, into Gangnam, and I haven't noticed anything different. One day about 2 weeks ago I did notice a 20-something chick kind of eyeing me a bit disgustedly, but I was wearing a pair of ratty sneakers and jeans. I just glared right back.

Three days ago I was riding the subway home, and this very short girl, maybe 21 or so, saw me...moved over to stand next to me...then very deliberately pulled out a notebook and started practicing English vocabulary, out loud. I think I was supposed to notice, and strike up a conversation. Laughing

Maybe old farts like me are either a) too insensitive to notice, or b) not perceived as a problem. Who knows. Laughing

I've noticed nothing in the last week.

I even went to a DVD room with 3 Korean girls yesterday and the guy at the desk was happy to see me and have a chat.

One foreigner - three Korean girls, if that didn't spark the imagination Wink

The movie was good to...something about Korea's biggest bank robbery, not bad if a little complex.

That damn ki-bok principle really shags with your head, eh.

What's the expat percent of Korea's population these days? Still the same as it was? About .0001%? You felt a 'vibe'? Post back when you collect the first elbow in your rib/kidney area. To avoid this happening to you while in public, stay off caffeine for a few days. Get some sleep. You'll look great and everyone will be puttin' out that sparklin' vibe. Remember where you heard it. eslcafe.com Number one for advice by PM on the net.

I used to be very sensitive to vibes, especially on the subways. Recently I just found that taking my MP3 player or a book really helps in blocking out vibes. If you are just standing there, of course you can feel eyes boring into your back or face....it helps to bring distractable material to get rid of that.
One time, this mother with her kid were practicing English from a textbook. She kept eyeing me and poking her kid to talk to me. I just ignored them. Then she said something to me in English. At that point, I acted like I didn't hear hear because I have the excuse of the MP3earphones in my ear. Finally, this nag actually had the indecendy to walk over to me and poke me and say "You Englishee teacher...my Child learn Englishee now" I just looked at her coldly and said "Yongo Mal Motayeo" (I don't speak English). She asked me in Korean were I was from and I lied and said Mexico....she seemed really disgusted by that and ran away from me quickly. Rolling Eyes
But other than that, no one even bothers me. I'm usually hassle-free. I just take a reading material or headphones and it looks like I'm distracted and not interested in conversation...which I'm not when I'm alone. I think it's been mentioned that you yourself are responsible for generating a certain vibe and that's certainly true. Just looking comfortable will usually rid you of unwanted attention. Of course there will always be someone who will get under your skin on the subway, supermarket, whatever. But then that's when you can post what an idiot they are and make fun of them on Dave's.

The thing is that I have sensed this vibe since 2002 ever since the first major incident that included 2 middle school girls and that Track vehicle.

But these days, people don't pay too much attention to me. I wondered why for a while until a person came up to me and asked if I spoke English.
For once, I said yes I did. And then he asked where I was from and I told him the US and he looked puzzled (thats when I started to look puzzled). He told me that I didn't look like an average American and a person told him she thought I was either Russian or German. I asked him why and he said the woman thought I looked arrogant and unfriendly (yet tall and handsome~ ironic huh?) and he got into a conversation about his experience in Europe and his run-ins with Europeans in Korea, how they are not as easy to talk to then Americans or Canadians. Then I simply told him that the best way to meet people is to just go up and try to speak to them, if it doesn't work, try again with another person later and not to generalize about people based on one or two instances.

Frank Cho isnt a sissyman afraid of real women...

Well, real-ish...

Well, his fetishes are for a meaty gal who has her own opinions as opposed to a skinny gal who giggles whenever she's talked to.

Anyway, the guy can draw well. He just cant write worth shit.

i find that i am also incredibly sensitive to vibes. I can feel where the energy is going to, coming from, and what it is. There have been more than a few times I didn't feel comfortable out there.

For those of you who feel get bad vibes a lot, let me suggest that you simply put on some headphones, and listen to music quietly while reading the ads on the roof of the train.

There is something about music which allows me to totall escape....but maybe that's just me

Hhehehehe, I remember getting the vibes on the London underground when I lived there in the 90s. I thought every damn bugger was staring at me. When I realized that a 3 day binge on speed and E was most likely the cause I rectified it by going to Greece for 6 months. Its amazing what kind of tricks your brain can play on you.
