|
|
Police said yesterday they are investigating a famous pop singer and a producer on charges of drug use.
The singer, identified only by the initial K, and the DJ-turned-producer, identified only as H, are charged, respectively, with using marijuana and MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy.
Both undertook a drug test at the National Police Agency and acknowledged the charges after the tests proved positive, police said.
Another singer from a four-woman group, identified as S, is also suspected of using drugs and was summoned by police, but she strongly denied the charge. Her urine test, taken after she was interrogated on Feb. 22, reportedly was negative but police said they had requested further examination by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation.
Since popular entertainers are involved, an official said police investigations are being handled prudently. "Whether an arrest warrant will be requested will be decided next week and if further investigation reveals that both have taken drugs regularly, it is likely that they will be arrested," the official said.
The management company for the female band released a statement yesterday saying the drug allegation against the band member is groundless. It noted the urine test was negative and said reports of further drug tests are untrue.
Police also said three nonentertainers have been arrested, including one for supplying drugs, while seven others are being investigated.
of course the non stars have already been arrested!
reason why the stars havent been arrested yet?
the girl band? emmmm wonder who it is...
anyway they should all get busted.. becuase many have in the past.
and its only fair!!
too bad there was no foreigner involved, then they could have just blamed him and said the foreigner forced them to take drugs!

How do you know there isn't a foreigner in the group already arrested? Wouldn't that blow a hole in your whole scapegoating theory? |

remember a few years ago when the pop singer 'PSY' was pinched for drugs?
he was ratted on by someone who knew his business.
the police coerced him to submit to a drug test through threats of a higher penalty if he refused and subsequently proven guilty.
my theory is that pop stars are exposed to keep their progressive values from influencing society. all those soju breathing cavemen don't want to give up the easy life just yet.
as for the law...
police are required to show you a warrant signed by a judge, before they submit you to a urine or DNA test. often, threats or coersion are used to frighten the subject into submitting.
warrants are easily obtainable in this country, however. all it takes is 2 independant accusations for a judge to issue one... or 1 peice of hard evidence.
the police can detain you for 72 hours without granting you access to a lawyer or any phone calls.
as for penalties....

Recent drug busts (marijuana) have seen the following the result-
Simple possession first offence in Korea
Conviction.
No financial penalty.
Deportation.
3 weeks in the lock up whilst the system organizes your departure from Korea. |
don't bet on things to remain so easy for long, though. |

why are people so hung up on drugs? alcohol is actually the most toxic drug out there. did you know that the only drug withdrawl that can actually kill you is alcohol? my friend works in an addiction clinic back home and she says the people who have the hardest time are the alcoholics, as it's socially acceptable and intensely hard to quit. |

Quite right, PP. I certainly don't condone the use of legal or illegal substances where they can *beep* up a person's life. So many people reach for these things because their lives are already fucked up, and that's fucked up but understandable.

Yes the statistics are not good. However, prohibition is an impossible alternative. You just factor in the inevitable criminal element to the procuring process when you do that. Korea is very much an analgesic society, same as any other. For the record, I'd like to see Korean school age education address the issue of drug use. They won't avoid the rising tide by burying their heads in the sand like they have done with sex education, and a million odd unwanted pregnancies among Korean teenagers a year is testament to that. |

Mr. K and H? So, I guess the reporters aren't putting their faces on TV like they would if they were foreigners. |

In yesterday's Korea Times newspaper it was a bit more specific.
Singer is 30 yr old male group member surnamed Kim.
Producer is 42 yr old male surnamed Ham.
Girl is 21 yr old surnamed Seo (Her initial drug test came back negative, and they're still waiting on further test results)
Rumor has it that the girl is from the group Jewelry. I think her name is Seo InYoung. Dunno if that's true though. |

Whatever, I'll believe the Korean media is fair and unbiased if they shoot and broadcast video of these celebrities, with their names in full at the bottom of the screen, taken at the very moment they give their depositions to the police (like they do to foreigners and other regular folk). I'm not holding my breath. Only regular folk have the privilege of having their privacy infringed upon, especially when their agents and some TV producers are both pissing in the same pot.

its relatively easy to die from heroine withdrawals as well... i've worked with both heroine addicts and alcoholics going through withdrawal and its not a pretty site either way you look at it. |
