I need to change some (about 500,000) before I go back, and would like to take full advantage of the fabulous current rates. anyone?

iirc, my bank charged me the lowest rate, like .5% and a 5,000 won fee.

Not really sure, but I would look into ForeignExchange Bank. It's a chain, so at least in Seoul it's pretty easy to find.

DON'T do it on a military installation.

Don't forget to ask for a discount, as they are quite willing to do so if you ask nicely enough.

Korea Exchange Bank

KEB

they know what they are doing and are fast, efficient and quick. Unlike many other banks that demand to see monthly pay statements etc.

If you want quick and hassle free, go to the money exchange in the alley right behind Gecko's in Itaewon. It charges a standard rate but no waiting in line and they are honest. I used when I was living there and know lots of people who use it all the time.
