Despite coming across as a computer generated program of reports from newspapers or wherever, RR does exist in human form.

Hmm, the link doesn't work. Does it have a photo of him frying burgers during his pre-Korea days? |

Dudes,
Stop wasting your breath about RR. He's clearly a mental case who loves to go off on the hand that feeds him. |
So what about the (mostly Korean) journalists who write the articles that he frequently links to? Can you say the same for them?
Can you say the same for the Korean author of "Seoul Searching"? |

For starters, he uses the press reports of a country he clearly dislikes. He's probably said don't trust the Korean press, bla bla bla, yet his only resource is the Korean press.
Plus, he's been in Korea for years yet continues to whine like some mental case about things here, sort of like a patient who goes to see his shrink every day about how terrible his seventh birthday party was. |

Korea is wonderful. However,...
Foreigners Experience Difficulties in Living in Korea
"Even though Korea has achieved some degree of globalization in going abroad, it has still a long way to go for globalization in embracing foreigners inward," said foreigners residing in Korea. An official in the International Cooperation Division of Seoul City admitted, "The same complaints regarding visas, transportation, education, and environment are raised every year without being solved, due to the lack of cooperation from government agencies involved and their passive attitudes."

(or if you prefer)
When in Rome,...
We live in an era where the escalating divorce rate, alcoholism, anxiety and depression affect the psyche of every Korean in some way or the other. Just about every Korean suffers from soul-deadening mental, physical or emotional tiredness.
Professor Chey would like Koreans to "look inside" and explore their inner worlds. When she returned from the United States nine years ago, she noticed a lot of anger and stress in Seoul. "Koreans tend to think the problem is caused by someone else, that it does not lie within the Self," she said.
"But first of all we must do complete self-examination. Our history testifies that Korean people have lacked serious self-examination," he [Professor Rhee Dong-shick] explained.

Yo, Real,
You quote the same damn stories all the time. Korea has its problems just like any other country -- they hardly need someone like you to whine about it.
Granted, I believe in freedom of speech but please, seek some professional help. |

Are you comparing like with like ot just using examples from Gangnam and comparing them to parts of the US that can't be considered analagous? Try comparing Manhatten with Gangnam. It's more appropriate. |

I suppose I'd have to agree with Gwangjuboy that it would be a more appropriate comparison. But I can help shaking my head. What was Manhattan 30 years ago? The global financial capital and the commercial centre of the world's largest economy, as it still is. What was Gangnam? Rice paddies and shacks. What is it now? Oh, I'm sure there are plenty of Koreans who rightly see it as a proud and shining example of their country's rapid economic development. Me? I sometimes shudder to think I live in an age when these two places could ever be seriously compared on any criterion.
Nostalgia. That's what I want. Is that too much to ask? |

For a 10,000,000 won deposit I can rent a decent studio for 600k a month in Gangnam. I subway worker in the UK could afford that.

Koreans Who Earned Doctorate Degrees in the U.S. Do Not Want to Return
More and more Korean scientists and engineers, who graduated from Korean universities and continued on to earn their doctorate degrees in the U.S., are working in the U.S. This can be interpreted as a worsening brain drain in the Korean science and technology sector.
According to the analysis, 73.9 percent out of the 901 Koreans who earned a doctorate degree in engineering, natural science, and bioengineering in 2004 in the U.S. wanted to remain. The figure is a 23.9 percent point increase from 50 percent in 1984.
