i've been posting at this site since 1999 (although since they changed to scoop, the registration conveniently "forgets" me so much I haven't been on since now.) i think my old idea cookbook ideas are still here.
my reasons:
1. dave let me.
2. i know some shortcuts for living in korea i wouldn't mind sharing.
3. i am interested in teacher training, especially non-teachers thrust into teaching situations, as I was once thrust.
4. i paid for my MA dangit! i want to use it! |

For once, I thought this thread would be better titled
"Why do you pee here?"
But seriously, it is good for your (mental) health.
To save your fragile western egos.
I always despise Koreans with over-nationalistic attitudes throwing blatant remarks on everyone else but Koreans.
This board is not much different. |

It is less about that than about this:
"That's one of the main problems with foreigners in Korea. We are treated as a different species. Like the Korean species is so different from the foreign species.
If Koreans realised that foreigners are just like them but from a different country then everything would be a lot more beautiful.
Problem is that Koreans often treat foreigners as a different species. You are foreign. I'm Korean. Therefore we are different." -- Eamo |

Grasshopper, once you have several messageboard forums set up by deeply insecure (and mostly alcoholic) expats obsessing on you like the bitter children they are, you will have reached my level of zen mastery.
But for now, you must keep practricing your Sarcasm Chi. I shall always be here to show you the path. |

From my own experience from ESL "teachers" and this board your ARE different regardless of the skin tone. And I thought you were equally good at distancing us "Koreans" from you "Westeners". So I'll say we are even. |

I'm not finding it very therapeutic any more, I don't know what it is, I'm just bored with it I suppose. |

So, are you satisfied with the status quo? I'd say your presence here indicates a willingness to bridge the gap and I'm glad you post here. |

Thanks. But you know, sometimes I do have one of those horrible Dave's ESLcafe days. |

My thoughts exactly. Or at least thats what i once felt many moons ago..
You see, I'm contractually obligated to post here. D.Sperl made me sign that 3 year deal after I won the "Gay or Stud" debate. I was negotiating with English Spectrum in hopes of exercising the trade clause in said contract when that little playboy fiasco ruined everything for me. Now Sperling has me locked in for at least another year. Dirty b@stard.
There are days when i wish i hadn't even bothered to climb into that Gay or Stud ring and completely clean house the way i did. In a heartbeat i'd give Sperling back the trophy, the airplane tickets to his summer home in the Philippines, the wine & cheese, the Subway party platter, the "Gay or Stud" sash and accompanying pimp cane, the feret, the lifetime membership to Starbutts...if i could just lead a normal life again. |

I said in the poll the other option. It is for all those reasons except the 'hate' thing I posted. I don't think that any of my post have been remotely racist. Am I a racist if I'm madly in love with a Korean, used to go out with a black English girl and have had friends from many different countries and races.
Sometimes the level of stupidity in Korea is overwhelming, as elsewhere. Pointing this out is not racist.
I've learned a lot about all sorts of things on this board, whether computer related in the tech bit, current affairs, teaching stuff, legal stuff and where to buy curry ingredients. I have many reasons for my involvement with this board. Sometimes it is good to get something of your chest too, or feel your doing good by consoling someone when they're having a hard time.
We English teaching folks and assorrted hangers on in the expat community are a minority here in Korea. And it is only proper that we look out for each other and offer words of advice or nuggets of information on whatever may be on our minds.
The few dave's board people I've met have turned out to be interesting cool people. I suspect even the arseholes are just arseholes on dave's board and probably at least tolerable IRL.
Time for a new poll. Who is the biggest arsehole on the eslcafe forums?
If any of you commie hating folks say it is me for my current avatar then I'll have no other option but to make you live in a sea of radioactive fire where the nukes will be delivered effectively by my special operations oxen herders |
