American NGO Meeting on N. Korean Human Rights Annoys Seoul
South Korea expressed its displeasure on Wednesday at Washington's decision to organize an international conference on North Korea's human rights situation, saying that it will only aggravate inter-Korean relations. The U.S. State Department reportedly decided to provide $1.7 million to Freedom House, a pro-democracy NGO in the U.S., this year to help it organize the conference at a yet-to-be-determined place.
Freedom House is reportedly considering Seoul, Tokyo and a city in Europe as possible venues.

Hey, anyone that can kill off a large percentage of their own nation's population can't be so bad. Kim Jong Il is in select company with such worthy human beings such as Joseph Stalin, Idi Amin and Pol Pot. Perhaps though, since he is Korean he would therefore have to be innocent of any human rights violations. Wake up South Korea!!! |

What a disappointment President Roh has been on this front. Were it a matter of ethnocentrism, one could simply say that's childish. However, as it's really a matter of crass cynicism, it's not at all forgivable.
I'd genuinely like to hear what indierci has to say about this. I'll PM him. |
