I was gonna reply the dumbest thing at my hagwon is the pretense of learning English by the majority of kids who don't want to be there and fake their ass through most classes. But then I remembered most of these kids are under age 15 and thought I might give 'em a break. |

I'm not even in Korea yet... but these I get.
* Must be legal age (18+)
* Must have no prior convictions.
* Must have a LEGAL Diploma from an ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY
These I'm lost on... are you talking about dumb fellow teachers? Or rather the qualifications for posting?
And if you are speaking of a fellow teaher, rather than a silly circumstance... how would get them to fit on the puter screen? (other than a pic of course)[/quote] |

Reminds me of my cousin who worked at a PR company in Toronto. Cohn & Wolfe or something. It was run by two women. Everyone in the industry referred to them as "the dragon ladies". Huge biatches. But you know, they got the job done.
Anyway, you had to sign for every office supply you used. Need a pen? You had to sign for it. Need a sharpie? You need to be either be a manager or get manager approval for such. At the end of the month they would review office supply consumption. My cousin was one day called on the carpet and biatched at for using one or two more pens a month than other employees. |

Dumbest thing at the last hogwan I worked at? Tommy! Hands down! Tommy the Korean director who had lived in Australia for several years was the stupidest freak I have ever met.
He would go to myself and tell me that they(owners) didnt like the other English teacher and how they loved me. Then he would go to Ryan and tell him the same thing. Like foreigners never talk
He would brag about how much money he would win at the Casino and the next day be trying to borrow money for cigarrettes. If you did lend him money it took 3-4 months of nagging and reminding for him to pay you back.
After I had finished my year in hogwan hell they ripped me off of 500,000+ When I told them I was taking them to the labour board they had Tommy call me up and threaten to have me deported. I laughed and told them to go for it. Stupid hogwan owner, stupid director |

The stupidest thing at our hogwan (and most others) must obviously be the kids' parents. |

Right now? The curtains in my room: they cannot be opened. However, they are attached by velcro and so easily pulled off and then reattached when the sun shines on the kids' faces. Hopefully they'll be fixed soon.
Then there is the giant white board of death. |

So many things I could write...
I think the absolute worst was in January, when we were all doing intensives and working all day every day, and we had the Kindergarten performance scheduled for the end of the month. They realized they wanted a morning of full rehearsal for the performance, which conflicted with the Intensive classes that most of us were teaching at the same time, so they called a meeting and told us the Intensive classes would be rescheduled for the Saturday before the performance. There was an immediate and bitter outcry and the decision was thankfully reversed. |

The stupidest thing in my hagwon is that I'm not supposed to let on that I understand parents when they speak to me in Korean. The fact that I speak Korean is our hagwon's little secret. |

Yep, my Korean girlfriend does the same thing. She always busts out the Korean during the last week of classes. The students are like, "wow, teacher is picking it up fast." |

This seems pretty dumb to me, but maybe it's not...
Every friday is 'test day'. The foreign teacher speaks, asking questions from the book, to each student. And records a score out of ten for 'vocab', 'comprehension', 'pronounciation', etc. While the rest of the class does a word search puzzle.
Ok, but every week? |
