More than 43 percent of 16,947 married women aged between 24 and 35 said they are seeing someone other than their husbands and 57.3 percent of them are engaged in sexual relationships, according to a one-month online survey jointly conducted by Herald Media Inc. and Daum Communications.

If you do the math that is about 25% who are cheating on their husbands. I am pretty sure the number of men who are cheating on their wife is higher.

They want to have their female attractivness noticed, and also want a sense of independence. The men withn the money and the prestgious jobs can pick the stunners from the litter, but aren't able to show the affection to keep the beauties feeling good about themselves. That's to be expected though since most marriages these days are buisness arrangments.

All of this is nothing new, but it could be that Korea's women are finally coming of age.

If you're referring specifically to Korean marriages, then isn't "these days" out of place in this last sentence? Traditional (arranged) marriages are on their way out as "love marriages" become the norm. Or are you suggesting that as Koreans become wealthier, money matters more than ever in deciding who to marry, whether the marriage is "arranged" by the parents or not?

As DW asks, "cheating = coming of age?" Why don't they focus on the other areas of life where women here aren't treated as equals? I guess it's a matter of 'equality where you can get it now'. "I can't force my company to pay me the same salary as my male co-workers, but I sure as hell can *beep* around behind my husband's back like a man can!" Rolling Eyes

Itaewonguy, would you agree "what's good for goose..." in this respect?

Why did reading that article make you feel good, Mith? I don't think it's possible to answer that question (assuming it wasn't entirely rhetorical) without sounding censorious or judgemental. Could it be because your thing is banging married Korean women, and this survey suggests there are more bangable ones out there? Or, you're banging a single one now who plans to marry someone else, and you're worried you won't be able to keep banging her afterwards? Or, it's just fun watching social institutions come unraveled before our very eyes? Or, you don't like the institution of marriage to begin with, and this is just more evidence that it's disintegrating? Or that, while you'd personally be traumatised if your own mother catted around on your father, it's hi-larious when it happens to Korean married couples who you don't know? Or is it, you don't really like the idea of them cheating on their husbands, but hell, if the husbands can, so should the wives? (Two wrongs never made a right on any of the planets in our great solar system! Razz )

Only you know the answer to your question, Mith. I, for one, didn't get a warm, fuzzy after reading that article.

Of course, if you were to suggest that the same thing be done to the woman, it would be denounced as "honour killing"(or something very close) and held up as a sign of how backwards the culture is.

Hirtting a woman is a no no. No matter what. The guy should know better and he deserves to get his face stomped in for messing with a married woman. A woman cant defend herself physically. A guy can.
