A North Korean woman scientist has won a prestigious award of the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) here on Thursday, along with 13 other scientists. The award, offered by French cosmetics giant L'Oreal SA, honors distinguished female scientists under the age of 36 every year. She was given a grant for about $20,000. Kye Yong-sun, 32, who became the first North Korean woman to receive the award, is in a postdoctoral course at a Pyongyang-based scientific institute after majoring in biochemistry and physics at Kim Il-sung University.

God Korean papers suck. What the hell for? It's all very nice- But pointless if they want to be that ambiguous.

"who received the award (for her studies in)"

It's not difficult.

It's probably another example of political correctness. The same org gave the same award to a South Korean scientist (Dr. Yoo Something) back in '99, I think it was.

A female North Korean scientist won a prestigious award and grant from the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) here on Thursday, along with 13 other scientists. The award, sponsored by French cosmetics giant L'Oreal SA, honors distinguished female scientists under the age of 36 every year, and the grant is worth about US$20,000.

Kye Yong-sun, 32, who became the first North Korean woman to receive the award, is in a postdoctoral course at a Pyongyang-based scientific institute after majoring in biochemistry and physics at Kim Il-sung University. She is to conduct research on producing insect-resistant beans at Nankai University in Tianjin, China, according to the cosmetics company.

"I'd like to contribute to helping reduce my country's food shortages by developing insect-resistant beans," Kye said in a written interview with L'Oreal. "The importance of beans is growing every day because my country is suffering from food shortages due to natural disasters for the past few years." The L'Oreal-UNESCO award, dubbed the Nobel Prize for women, was established in 1998, and two female South Korean scientists have received it so far.

That is the ugliest 32 year old woman I have ever seen.

I am pretty sure she missed her rations at a young age.

I am sorry to say, but my grandmother looked alittle better than that until she was well into her 50's.
But then again, she was French-Canadian Wink
