My old modem died. I called KT megapass's help line (dial 100 from your land line phone and press 8... this takes you to English support) [1]. A guy came, tinkered a bit, and then hooked up a new DSL modem. My old modem, I had a little connection icon on my desktop that I clicked to connect. It contained my login id and password. This new modem doesn't require that. I turn on the modem and after some light blinkin', behold, the internet.
Anyway, anyone know how this modem knows I'm a legit user? Is my login id/password stored some place? Or does the system simply know, like cable TV, back at the switch box or something that this apartment gets internet?

[1] Let me say again, the two times I've dealt with KT's English support I've been blown away by how good it is. a) their English is good, you're likely to get someone more fluent in English on a Korean phone support line than a North American phone support line... odd that b) truck rolls come quickly and spot on time. |
