| The search facility in explorer is pretty poor. Is there a simple downloadable utility that is more efficient? |

| Thanks, I have installed it and it looks good. So far, it has been beavering away indexing all my files. First time round, that's taking a while. A good tip. |

Are you talking about searching your own hard drive? |
Yep, that and a company netwrok drive.
I found that MS search does not find stuff that I KNOW is there .... |

I did not know that Wanja. I'll have to try to be more observant on this issue.
So, do you know anything about a district of Seoul called Seocho? I may be interviewing at a school there soon. I'll probably go over to the job-related forum and ask this question next. |

Yep, Seocho is very close to where I am right (Kangnam). It is a good area, arguably one of the best and is close enough to anything you want to do in southern Seoul. |

yeah... you do realise that this one off indexing takes a while but thereafter, if you are running XP and haven't turned off indexing services, it will do it on the fly. When it does it on the fly it is very fast and will find something within 30 secs of you creating a file and saving it usually.
Make sure you have a good play with the options there to hone it. Once you do, I think you will find it very powerful. I love these features in particular:
you can search for pics by date taken using a little calendar and preview them instantly
you can preview almost any file without opening it and with search terms highlighted. The preview will start at the term you are looking for
you can view each file type in a separate page so you aren't inundated with results.
Google, despite releasing a final version, is simply eons behind this tool... |

Yep, I guessed it was an initialisation process. Haven't mesed with it yet, preferring to let it do its bit. For free software, it does look a very serious program - I wish I had asked before.
It's taking a long time 'cos I have thousands and thousands of files, many of them large text files, 200 pages long and more. |

OK, the initialisation took hours and hours - around 10 I think, but it indexed around 15,000 files and 1.6 million key words!!
I used it for the first time and the results came up almost instantly.
