My computer has a plethora of problems. The latest problem is that after using the internet for about ten minutes, it says it cant find the server even though my connection is active and msn messenger is online. What the hell does that mean? Ive run every virus program and anti-spyware program in existance and i still get casino pop ups even when Im not online. I installed Zone Alert and have all the settings at high but crap still gets put on my computer. What the funk!!!!!! Any suggestions other than smashing my computer with a sledge hammer and throwing it out the window?

Uh no. Do that and then buy a Mac. You'll never look back.

If you're using XP, use the system restore point. Think hard about when you first noticed it happening. Then go to

start | programs | accessories | system tools | system restore

You'll see a little calendar with restore points. Set it to a point before the time you noticed the problem. See if that works.

i think your problem is that not enough time has passed since i was in your apartment. computers don't like me. if they had legs, they'd kick me in the nuts before shutting themselves off.

I currently do computer support for a living, taking care of about 300 PCs and a handful of Macs. When one of my PCs has a spyware problem, I don't even attempt to clean it because that so rarely works. I just put in a new hard drive, which for us is an hour and a half project. Obviously, that's probably not a solution for you.

But you could wipe the hard drive and just start over if you have the original XP CDs and the installation software for programs you feel are important. It's a last resort, but you may have to do that, first making a copy of any data you've created on your computer. What with all of XP's security issues, I heartily suggest keeping all PC software disks and burning frequent CD copies of everything.

And even though I know a lot more about PCs than Macs, my home computer is a Mac for just this reason.

My advice: switch to Firefox for most of your internet browsing. (Confine IE use to financial websites where active x is required.)

Thank you hari seldon. Ive been using Firefox for the last day or so and have had zero problems with the internet. I will never use Explorer again.
