You're being prefectly sensible.
Just keep in mind that for a recruiter, you're a big payday, so they tend to "bend" facts to get you to take what they're offering. You'l never know the real deal until you get here and start working. |

Whether you're picky or not doesn't really matter. Eventually you're gonna end up in the same sh*t hole as the rest of us. |

Don't listen to him/her. There ARE good jobs here. Don't let the jaded people influence your thinking. |

Don't let anyone influence your thinking. Odds are though, you're going to end up in a job that you're not happy with. It's just a matter of how unhappy you'll be with it. |

Thanks, I have been going through a few recrutiers but sometimes they are so pushy and I have to say no heaps before they finally give in but then i feel really bad because they seem genuine and are doing me a favour! |

The only favor you would be doing them would be the help get that large commission for placing you in some of those schools.
Alot of the bad jobs I had before I got through recruiters.
The best thing to do is to deal directly through the school.
It is a safer bet. |

It is much easier to find a job from Korea - pay for a ticket here yourself and look for a job yourself when you arrive. I have done that from NZ twice already. The second time I had signed a contract for everything I wanted (no kindy, single housing, no weekend work) in one and a half weeks.
Decide what you want and don't want, and as long as you are reasonable, stick with it and don't sign for less. You can do it from overseas, but it is much faster and easier from in-country.
By the way, where in God's own country do you come from? |

My wish list was a bit different from yours. (I wanted to be out in the country, in a school that specialized in early childhood education, and in a school owned and operated by someone who actually had a background in education.) But I too spent several months researching schools -- and turning down a number of "pretty good" offers before finally signing a contract and haven't regretted the time invested in the job search in the least. Have now been at the school with which I DID sign for two years and am happy enough there that I recently signed a contract for another two years. Is the job perfect? No, but I would give it a 9/10 and take it over most public school positions in my home country any day. |
