If a teacher is given housing allowance and no key money, what should that teacher do? Where does a foreigner find an apartment in Seoul? Is there an online sight, a realator? Who is in this situation?

just find someone who can translate for you and hit up all the budongsan's in the area you want to live. Tell them you have no key (bo-jeung-geum) money and your school gives you xxx(housing allowance -100,000 won) per month. They should be able to find you a few things (not great if you're in kangnam). The rent will be the xxx and then you'll still have the extra 100 for utilities and gwai-lo-bi. or however it's pronounced.

the OP never said Gangnam specifically. and although daechidong tends to exaggerate facts about anything Gangnam (just because he loves it so much), i must agree with him on this one. i paid 5 mil for key money, 500,000/mo for a nice officetel in yeoksam-dong. a friend living close by was able to get a 0 key money place, but it was 750,000/mo and that was a pretty good deal (new building). a friend in sinsa-dong pays 5mil/620,000.

that said, you can check out prices online, like at www.oneroomiyagi.co.kr (for Gangnam), but i didn't see anything that didn't require key money. you can find more sites by just googling "". that is, if your friend is looking for just a studio.

however, like drakoi said, the best bet is to just go to the area and walk into every budongsan () you see. i don't know how far you'll get with 0 deposit though...
