Hi, my name is JacktheCat and I have a confession to make.
I like Korea.
I like the food. I like the bipolar, hard edge atmosphere of this place. I like the drop dead gorgeous women. And I even like the parade of funky, strange waegukin that work here.
Sure it pisses me off now and then, but at the end of the day I am happy here. And when I look at my bank account, I am even happier. |

i like it here too.
today on my bus home, an ancient old man tried to flag down the bus as it was doing about 50 km/h on the expressway. the bus pulled over to let him on, after the driver had barked a few 'shippals!' much to the amusement of the giggling middle-schoolers in front of me.
he attempted to get on using the wrong door, so the others had to shout at him and point him in the direction of the main door. he proceeded to drop his watch on the pavement, with the passengers again helping him with a chorus of 'ajosshi! shegae chogita!' he ignored them and got on the bus, dropping his chon won in the process.
after being led to a seat, he attempted to sit on the floor, (ajosshi, ani!uija anjasaeyo!), then the wheel arch, before falling into the seat.
the rest of the 20 minute journey was accompanied by his singing and his mad bursts of laughter, while the my co-passengers hid their faces from the bonkers ajosshi and stiffled their mirth.
i got off the bus and thought yeah...
i like korea. |

I like that, 'bipolar, hard edged atmosphere to the place'....
People appear to be angry but they're making a joke.
Arghh, a lot of Koreans are pirates. I like Korean pirate people.... |

That's right!! Pirates!!
Like a kind of Bluebeard character acting all mad and threatening to "carve out yer spleen!!" or something, then bursting into laughter and giving you a big hug. |

When a student says "Teacher, I love you!" .... how can you hate it here???
When the ajuma in the market gives you extra whatever.... how can you hate it here???
I know that some people WORK for people who are...shall we say LESS than honest...(and I did, myself!) but taking Koreans as a whole? .... how can you hate it here???
90% of the people I've meet have been helpful and kind....maybe because I don't (never have and never will!) live in Seoul!!!!!! |

Great gal. That's a go.
Perfect blend of chaos and existence. That's a go.
Great little places to go and get away from it all. That's a go.
...but stupid fucking work...argh. |

It's not too bad here. I think the only think that Korea really needs is a 60's revolution!!! It's time to mellow out...if you know what I mean. |

I find it difficult to work out if I love or hate Korea. I have been here 3 years and it is a rollercoaster of the two emotions. A summary of my overall feeling on Korea is "It's ok". |

I love the things that would never happen in the states, at least not in big cities: a few days ago, I went to pick up dry cleaning, realized I forgot my wallet, and the guy told me to take my cleaning, I could pay him tomorrow.
Or buying an expensive piece of furniture, giving the guy cash, no receipt, and knowing that the thing would be delivered as promised.
I hate garbage all over the streets, and the fact that no one seems to notice... |

I left my handphone in the back of a cab on Saturday night- the driver called the last number I'd rang and we arranged for him to drive back to the bar he dropped me outside where he gave me back my phone.
I also like the way some restaurants will chase after you because they think you've left your change if you leave a tip |
