Is there anybody that has taught or is teaching in Icheon. I've been offered a job there and just wanted to know what the town is like, if there's many other foreigners and if there's much to do in the town/surrounding area. I understand it's only an hour from Seoul so i guess there should be plenty to do there![/b]

Is there nobody out there at all can give me any info about Icheon? It would be greatly appreciated - i've got a job offer there and would like to know things like whether there is any nightlife at the weekends, are there things to do and see around that area and are there many other foreigners already there?

My friend worked there for CJ. She said it was rural. So, lots of kids riding on the back of donkeys and the like.

Incheon is quite a big city so there are many areas. I lived in the Gyeang-Gu area for about one year. Actually found it to be one of the most dirtiest, polluted places that I have come across.

There is alot of factories in the area which contribute to the bad pollution problem. The yellow dust problem is intensified there as well. Greatest day of my life was leaving Incheon. Come to think of it, the place is a cesspit....

No.. I'm sure he means Icheon which is famous for pottery or what now...

either way, Icheon isn't much of an upgrade over Incheon (and yes, I have the cities listed in the correct order)

There is a small town called Icheon, which should not be confused with port city Incheon or the subway station Ichon. If I lived in Icheon, my fear is I'd never get my mail. It would always get delivered to Incheon or Ichon.

I lived in Icheon....it seems everybody i talk to who lived there has a different opinion.

i thought it was great. although it's a small town, it's still a "city." when i was there (about 2 years ago) there were a lot of foreigners and everyone hung out on weekends...we even went on vacation together. it was a really good, tight-knit group....because of the size of the town, you're always running into people and end up going for coffee or dinner or something. but things change and i don't know if it's like that anymore.

the best thing about icheon for me was the compactness.....you can walk just about anywhere...no need for subway or buses. things are cheap, the people were super nice. and if you need a taste of the big city, express buses run to seoul about every half hour or 40 minutes. it's only an hour to Seoul. the only thing that sucked was that the last bus back to icheon from seoul is at around 9:30....or 10, i think, from the east seoul terminal.....i stayed over in seoul a lot with friends, renting a yeogwan or staying with friends.

i still go back to icheon every year for the ceramics festival....just beautiful.

so that's my advertisement for icheon. i really enjoyed it, but i know others that didn't because it was too small or borning or whatever. guess it depends on how well you keep yourself busy. several friends of mine took tekyon and taekwondo, as well as art classes, and there are some good gyms.

good luck with your decision!

I know this post is about Ichon, but I have to
put my 2 cents in here. I have lived in Incheon
for years and I agree that it is a city with almost
no redeeming qualities. The people who live here
have to be the most cultureless, boring hive drones
in all of Korea. And yes, garbage everywhere.
No decent foreign restaurants, no good bars. Its
one saving grace is the islands of the coast. They
are great for camping.

ichon -- south of seoul in the country. good hot springs and "famous" for rice and pottery. nice for a day trip; wouldn't want to live there full time.
