My neighbour told me that the self-styled leader of the Anti Foreign English Teacher Movement, Kim Jin Cho if my memory of his name is right, was reported to the police for uttering death threats to at least two foreign English teachers on the Internet and for posting threats on the Korean-owned WorknPlay Web Site to have it brought down by his fellow cyber terrorists.

Daechi-dong Waegookin, do you think that the media will cover this guy's possible arrest or ever tell the story from a foreigner's perspective?

That's great news if it is true. Koreans can be very emotional about some issues and issuing death threats is a very serious crime. I looked at the anti-English website and even my very basic Korean could tell me it was a hate site and some of the posts even suggested beheading foreigners.

Good to hear that this hate filled cyber retard may have got his just desserts.

To be honest Korean media are very fickle and at the moment they seem more obsessed with being anti-Japan, (textbooks, dokdo, comfort women). I talked to a few of my more advanced students today and they were full of how bad Japan was and one of them also seemed to be able to really relate to the 'pabo ajumma' finger chopping thing! I told her I didn't expect a girl as smart as her to ever do something so stupid.

The English teacher non issue is firmly on the back burner, at least for now. It has died down for now but could return. These type of things seem to me to work on a cycle and before we know it it will have returned to the issue of US GI criminality, which has been a long time favourite.

KeithinKorea:

You are right about the bi-annual upward "spikes" in anti-Americanism/Anti-U.S.F.K. sentiment. Seen a few of them in my nearly four years here in the R.O.K.

At www.koreanesl.com, there is a poster who is calling the murder of the M.D. on I'taewon Street and the mob attack on the Seoul Subway in '96 against the G.I. and his Korean wife mere American propaganda! See for yourself; it's sick as hell, and the guy in question wants daves to be attacked, too, 'cause he says it's "anti-Korean" and "racist." Hope the guy gets justice...

There's one right there.

However, their page has gotten 18 hits so far today. My homepage is somewhere around 100. Seems to be petering out.

All I have to say is that similar comments uttered on-air by a popular radio host sparked the genocide in Rwanda.

Awesome. I hope he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And I hope he isnt the only one. They should track down all those people who put up threats on that site and other sites as well.

Yeah, I'd be interested in any news links, if people came across them.
