My boss, who fired me with 30 days notice two weeks ago just told me to be out of the apartment by midnight or else he was going to call the police. I know that he can't do this, legally-- he is angry because I told him I was going to be late tomorrow because of a job interview, so he decided that he would terminate me immediately.
I believe that he will call the police, and I need help. How do I explain my situation to the police? The boss hasn't told me when he will go to immigration to cancel my visa, so as far as I am concerned I am staying here until that happens. Believe me, I want out, but not under these circumstances. Any help???? |

Maybe you should just get out.
The police will take the side of your boss as he can communicate with them effectively and you can't. Also, they will assume you are in the wrong as you are a, "pervert, playboy foreign teacher".. ..(see SBS TV)
Unless you can somehow get one of those foreigner-friendly lawyers to call your boss right away and ask him to explain himself.... |

I was told that the there are squatter's rights, so the police dont' get involved in these kind of situations very often . I hope my friend who told me this was right for your sake. |

If you are in need of an intermediary, you can call the Seoul Help Center for Foreigners Help-line at (02)-797-8212.
They have past experience in assisting teachers with similar issues. |

Illcalypso,
An Ethiopian person who was studying at Yonsei University lived in the school-provided apartment with his family for aboutr six months after being told to fork off from the property, etc. back in the late '90s.
The Immigration Department told him and his family to sit tight and be cool, and that is just what the guy and his family did - to the chagrin of Yonsei University officials. |

Stock pile arms. I know a good Ak/M-16 dealer in Seoul. Make a stand. Wouldnt hurt to bring in some sort of religious agenda. Tell them that you are the long-lost brother of Jesus and that you are hording Korean women for breeding purposes.
But really, pack your stuff and see what happens after three and a half hours. If the police come, move into the pc bang. If they dont come, drink a beer and go to bed. |

Good Luck.
Your boss may not have really wanted to throw you out. I hope it works all right.
Corporal,
Foreigners Experience Difficulties in Living in Korea
Overall living conditions, including education, housing, medical care, transportation, immigration, and access to the Internet are pointed to as inconveniences. Not only inconveniences caused by different systems and customs in Korea, but also special discriminating practices, such as the practice of submitting two years of monthly rent in advance like a deposit, which is required of foreigners just because they are foreigners, are ubiquitous.
"Even though Korea has achieved some degree of globalization in going abroad, it has still a long way to go for globalization in embracing foreigners inward," said foreigners residing in Korea.

Contact the help center...even if the police do come they will provide an interpreteur. But stick to your guns! That apartment is legally yours until the end of the 30 days notice. Your boss is doing the usual bullcrap scare tactics trying to make you come in. |

Well now. I happen to know the OP in real life and was in contact with him last night with several PM's.
His relationship with his boss had broken down completely. He wanted out of there himself so I helped him find a 24 hour moving service. I'm not sure if he had to use it though. It seemed like the best thing to do rather than "stick to your guns" and go through something like a seige as the boss constantly tries to get your stuff out on the street.
I still don't know the result of this. I hope iiicalypso got something sorted. |
