My suspisions of my lanlord coming onto my apartment when I am not home where officially confirmed yesterday! I know it is uncommon, but i am seriously diturbed my it. My boyfriend had the afternoon off yesterday and was at home. (Unknown to the lanlord). My boyfriend heard a knock at the door, and heard the lanlords voice, he did not answer and pretended he was not at home as a test. Low and behold the landlord and his whole family come into our apartment. Obviously quite surprised to see my boyfriend standing in the middle of our bedroom!
Our landlords excuse was "we just wanted to make sure you were still living here"... #^#%@&!!! of course we are still living there we just paid you rent and said hello to you on my way to work that morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could havea little understanding if it was just the owner checking water pipes or somthing , but his whole family??? gives me the heebie jeebies knowing they go through our stuff. anyone had a similar experience? |

If you're a regular reader of this board you'll know this happens a lot!!!
I know it has happened to me on about 5 different occasions in two different jobs.
However, when I asked my Korean friends is this normal they assure me it is not. No way would a landlord walk in on a Korean tenant without their prior permission.
Seems this little point of etiquette is suspended for foreigners only. |

but why? Why would they do it?
Just to see how foreigners live? Surely no-one can be that curious |

Its the typical 'we want to see the white monkey' crap. My advice is change the locks. It only costs about 100,000 and its worth the peice of mind.
A secondary option is call the police and have them charged with break and entering. It is illegal for a landlord to enter your apartment without your permission. |

I know it happens alot. But I don't understand why! I hide my passport and all my identification. even still i worry about it being found. NOt only that, but why on earth would he troop his whole family into my apartment? I have horrible thoughts of them pawing through my clothing, or treating my cat horribly among other things! I hate making big scenes so i dont think i would charge him. unless it really comes down to it. However all this week, we are setting up the webcam indescreetly and recording. see if we can catch anything. hopefully we don't! |

Secretly videotaping would be an excellent idea. Some Koreans really find proof and evidence a bugger. |

Yikes... thats crazy.
I think an exploding kimchee bomb trip wire type booby trap would be right on the money.
Fight them with their own medicine! Kimchee heals all things does it not... at least thats what I hear! |

I agree with the poster that said you should videotape it - with the following addition. Leave your silky white (but used!) panties out where they can find it. If they do something p'yunt'ae to it, then you have excellent blackmail material (or something to threaten them with if they try to to rip you off, etc). |

I'd be right pissed, too, but as some above posters said, you should set some booby traps and have fun with them. Make it easier and more pleasant for them to stay the hell out of your place. Just don't catch yourself in any of the tripwire.
Suggestions for booby traps, anyone...? |
