Got a new computer at work, and it had uptodate Win XP on it, running fine, til one of the students tripped and unplugged it this morning.
After that, instead of booting normally, I'd get a screen suggestion options like safe mode ( with or without networking) and regular windows, but none of the options worked. After around a minute or so- while XP was starting to load, it would crash and begin to reboot always stopping at the same point.
Someone at my school decided I needed to blow out all my info and reinstall windows, but I'm wondering if I might have been able to use the recover disk instead. |

Sounds like at least a corrupted install, if not something more extensive. Best to wipe it and start again, I'm afraid. |

Couldn't she just do a repair install instead of doing a fresh install? |

Hey Jaz! Long time, man...
Yeah, she could do a repair, but I don't trust them. Yes, via a repair, all data will be left intact, which is a good thing. |

WEll, it was a computer I'd had for about a week- not much data on there, except a few downloaded movies to kill the off hours ( fifteen hours a week of paid prep time can be overkill) |

Your student tripped on the plug around the time when Windows was writing some important information to the Hard Drive. Were you shutting down when it happened? That's about the worst time to pull the plug.
If you don't have a Restore program of some kind to restore the Hard Drive to a previous state, it's fresh install time, baby! |
