Just a bitch session here but do any of you have situations where the student's mother helps with the English homework, usually quite incorrectly, and then you have to argue with the student that it isn't correct?

S: But my mother says this is the answer!
T: Sorry, but this is incorrect. (ex. today "When time do you get up?")
S: No! My mother ...
T: Sorry, but ...
S: Teacher babo.

and then you have Korean teachers who also, not always, get it wrong which only reinforces the incorrect answer!!

and the K teacher who always speaks in Konglish....aisssshhhh

no wonder they can't speak English correctly Rolling Eyes

I feel mature when I can let things slide. Just let it go but try to keep it away from the other kids. So what if they sound dumb? You'll be long gone before it matters. That's their problem

Don't sweat the small stuff....we all know that all KT's and the whole population of korea speak English beautifully. Which brings me to this...why are there so many English teaching jobs in korea if KT's in hakwons/KT's in high schools, parents, etc. if these teachers are doing such a fine outstanding job?
I be more more blunt...90% of the KT's should NOT be teaching English!
You screw it up and just make more problems. Not that I am perfect...but...you have no business teaching a language where you make more mistakes than good.
How can most of you teach a language when you can't even have a conversation in the language you are teaching?!?!?!?
Same at universities....KT's teaching English and can't speak English! Hakwon directors running an English language and can't speak a lick of English!!! Or university English language department directors WITH Ph.D's in English who also can't speak using good grammar!!

yeah, I know it's nothing in the bigger picture but just another reason the little tykes will never learn English correctly and always sound ignorant when faced with a situation in which they will need to speak English

perhaps they should give up on English and stick with Chinese...afterall, they'll end up as a colony of China in the future

I'd prefer that to the mothers who throw away the homework papers because they don't think it's necessary for their kids to do it (and then go wondering why their kids' aren't making 100%s on the tests. Rolling Eyes

I have an irretrievably stupid lad named George in one of my classes. His mother always does his homework for him. Imagine the look of distress on the little turd's face when I assigned the usual homework stuff to be done in class that day. You'd have thought he peed his pants. Laughing

Yeah, but won't the Chinese want them to know English too for international business purposes?
