Why not, indeed. Well, it may have something to do with a keener sense of mortalilty (and wanting to delay it as long as possible) that people who are over 40 have a tendency to have. It may have something to do with the tales of suicide drivers being the norm in Korea (also in Taiwan from what I hear). It may be the fact that I'm told that the National Health Insurance doesn't include hospital stays. Or it may even be a combination of all these factors.
Now, if I were really concerned about this question I'l put up a poll asking how many ESL teachers ride motorcycles or motor scooters and of those how many of them ride substantial distances (like Gimpo to Seoul) rather than just a very limited range around their neighborhood, district, or campus. But my decision on this issue is unlikely to be influenced by such a poll.
And, my musical instrument doesn't adapt well to motorcycle travel. Yeah, I know. Get a sidecar.    |
