Has anyone ever shipped your pet ahead of you to go home? If so, how did it work. When I am flying home it will probably exceed the temperature requirements and my cat is too big to take on the plane.

Never shipped a cat home ahead of me, but I've taken one on the plane with me. This info is for taking it to Canada from Korea. You need a signed certificate of health by a vet for rabies shots. Korea is not considered rabies-free by Canada (it's not!)
If the cat is under 3 months old, it doesn't need a rabies shot.
You'll need a *hard-shell* carrier big enough for your cat to stand up in with a water bottle on the inside. You can buy all this equipment at a good veterinarian. You can take the cat with you in the cabin as part of your check-in luggage or it can travel in a special area of the hold below that's pressurized. The airline will charge you about a couple of hundred dollars. Whether you travel with the cat or ship it ahead of you, make sure you call the airline first to organize it.

For the rules to transporting cats to other countries always check with your embassy first. Some countries have mandatory quarantine.

There are temperature requirements for taking a pet on a plane. If it is 85 F or higher, the animal cannot go as checked baggage. I am leaving at the end of May and chances are good that they city I am going to will be too hot. To take an animal on board the animal must be able to fit under the seat. My cat is too big. So, my other option is to ship him a month ahead of time. I am just wondering if anyone has done this. While I appreciate the information about taking the animal with you, that is not the info I need.

Your other option might well be to fly home with him before it gets too warm and then come back to finish up your life in Korea...

I cannot really afford to do that. I do know that it is possible to ship a pet. I talked to the airline. I just want to know if anyone has done it and how it worked out.

High temperature or not I've read it's dangerous to ship animals as baggage. I don't understand why you would have to send it ahead a month though. I bought a Siamese cat from a cattery in the states and they sent it to me as a "passenger". It worked out fine. Pm me for any details I remember if you wish.

I have known several people who have taken their animals as checked baggage. Sending the animal ahead of time would mean doing the same thing, only without me. The questions I am asking is: has anyone done it and how was the experience. If not, that is fine, but that indeed is the question.
