When someone says they went to a prestigious school, two questions always come to mind:
1. How large were your classes?
2. Who taught your classes?

If the classes were often large seminars and/or taught by graduate teaching assistants or faculty off the tenure-track, then I don't care where you went to school. I'm unimpressed.

Why the @!#&*# would they want to teach in Korea?!

Because the employers are finally catching on that some of these schools are grossly inflating their students' grades.

People who went to Ivy leagues schools are great....

I never went to one, and look how I turned out .... Rolling Eyes

If I had gone to one though, I'd definitely be doing something useful with my time, rather than teaching in a hogwon. I'd probably be some kind of super rich banker, with a 6ft blond swedish wife who's into group sex.

There'd be no more sitting around my living room in my undies, posting on dave's. It's much more likely that I'd be paragliding, or bungee jumping or something like that, because my spirit of adventure would be enormous.

I'd also be alot more attractive, I'd have big muscles and long flowing blond hair. On any given day you'd either find me cooking up a storm in the kitchen of my 8 bedroomed house or harmonizing my buddist zen, through a combination of yoga and meditation ... except on Tuesdays of course ... I'd spend tuesday helping out at the homeless shelter, or maybe helping to return wayward puppies back to the streets where they belong.

I think I'd retire at 30 and set about ridding the world of disease. I'd do these big events with all the stars, me and J Lo would be spotted leaving an anonymous hotel together. That would instantly set off the rumor mill ... but we'd just smile and say we're just good friends, because with that sort of education i'd be much more morally sufficient than I am now.

Now look at all the things I could have done if I had paid more attention to my studies! Now I'm just a fat hairy worthless wanker with a 700won bottle of soju, an unstable babysitting job, and a truckload full of misery to unload on anyone who has the patience to listen to me for longer than 30seconds!

Remember kids, don't be like me! Now what book are we studying today? Oh yeah....that one. Does everyone..ummm..have it? What page are we on today?

I don't really have time to wade through all the posts, but you're right about the privates, and don't sell yourself short--especially if it's legal for you to work privately with an F-4.
Ivy Leaguers--even if you went to Dartmouth, the parents have heard of it--can easily pull in 100k/hour during the summer privately teaching TOEFL and SAT, and also counseling for Ivy-interested students. Cornell is the goal of most of the Ivy aspirants--with its larger freshman enrollment and slightly laxer standards. I could go on and on...
