What an evil thread. No one knows the extent of my plans.

I think someone should maybe apologise.

I'm doing the ye olde visa run to Osaka on March 3rd, and will finally be able to stay a few days there, leaving on either the 4th or 5th.

If anyone is going around the same time and would like to meet up or be shown the ropes, pm me.

Am doing "the run", next Wednesday/Thursday. Am intent on sleeping in every major international airport lounge, miffed security permitting.

That's Wednesday 23rd, by the by. Should anyone else be running at this time, let me know.

Slight change to the directions on the Osaka run:

Visas are now done upstairs, not downstairs.

(In the odd case anyone's interested, details of my February 28th visa run are on the March 1st 2005 entry of my blog.)

Did the run on March 2.

It is possible to take the rapit B train at 1630 and catch your flight at 1730. You must be lucky though.

I ran my guts out to make it and still the final boarding call had been made at Kansai by the time I got there.

Don't chance it; get the Asiana flight at 1900 and you'll smoothly sail back to Incheon.

On another note, they now have a machine that gives you a voucher for paying for your visa. You have to go to the person at the window, have them check your papers. They then give you a number to indicate which number your press on the voucher machine. All the while everyone waits for you to figure out how to work the machine.

Nuff said.

I will add that they were accepting paperwork untill 1615 when I was there; the machine ran out of money or something like that. I was impressed with their willingness to take care of everyone.

For those of you planning to spend a couple of days or the weekend in Osaka, a great deal is the One-Day (2000Yen) or Two-Day (3800Yen) Rail Pass available only at the Airport tourist information desk.

It lets you cruise around Osaka's subway system and ride buses free of charge all day and also gives discounts on popular museums and tourist attractions.

The Osaka Consulate has free Internet access in the library on the 2nd floor.

The library has two computers.

http://www.japan-hotel-reservations.net/japan_map/osaka_japan_map.html

Here is a pretty good map for Osaka.

The consulate is across from the Holiday Inn north of Namba Station.

The Holiday Inn was no longer a Holiday Inn when I was last in Osaka but the map is still useful.

I am taking a 1:20 flight on thursday, and will magke a 4 oclock flight back on sat. this does not give me much time, but I can figure out something to do thursday night, and fri morning drop upp my papers, and get them before they close.
I am not a drinker. Does anyone have a suggestion about where to stay and where to go? I do not really care about how much I soend on a hotel as long at it is nt more then 90,000 per night. I just want to have a nice time, Its short, but i can do something all day fri and sat morning.

Did the Osaka run March 16th.

For a place to stay I asked the tourist info booth at Kansai airport. 2,000 yen, that's 20,000 won. Cheap. It was two stops south of Namba (the Korean consulate is near Namba). It was an all guys hotel in a neighbourhood, I saw the next day, which seemed to be made up of aging, single, unemployed men. Which is ok.

For kicks I went to the aquarium after 4pm when the visa was done. It is a very big aquarium. Whale shark, manta, california sea lions, Pacific otters, dolphins from the Tasman sea, giant crabs (four feet tall, four feet wide, no joking). 1.5 times the world's annual production of acrylic went into the aquarium. The pacific tank (housing the whale shark, manta, etc.) has clear acrylic wall panels 30cm thick.

Near there is a giant ferris wheel 300 ft tall.

20,000 won for the aquarium, 7,000 won for the ferris wheel.
