Found this job posted on another popular site.

URGENT!!! Public Schools in Seoul- 2.5-2.6 milliion won/month URGENT!!!

"We take 25% of your first month pay (ONLY THE 1ST MONTH!) as a connection fee. However, there are no further commissions after the first month. "

I'd provide a link, but I'm sure many of you could find it without one.

Who and the heck would be willing to pay recruiter fees? That's the school's job!

Wow, thought this had all been done before. Wasn't there another thread about this EXACT same thing last week?

How, exactly, is this a scam? It seems that the recruiting agency is giving a full disclosure of its fees. Just because it's a different way of paying the recruiter fee, doesn't make it a scam. Heck, you could probably negotiate a larger salary from your employer if they didn't have to pay the recruiter fee. Get 2.1 per month instead of 2.0, pay the 525,000 fee and you're still ahead more than 700,000 for the 12 months, including the extra amount in your finish-contract bonus.

I agree. Its simple math. You can work at a haggie and make 2.0 or 2.1 or you can work here and make an extra 500 thousand a month. You are 6 million won ahead at the end of the year. Minus 600 thousand for the fee and thats still 5.5 million won a year more that you will make. Your bonus will also be 500 thousand won fatter. How is this a scam?

It's a scam because the company gets a fee for providing a service!

Shocked

Wait a second, that's not a scam. That's business.

It's a scam because they charge you for the fee the school should be paying. Please don't tell me you guys are dumb enough to start saying it's OK for teachers to start paying for what the school always paid for in the past? Ok, we are doomed... salaries will go down.

Also, I read that it's not pay of 2.5 plus housing. It's 2.5 including the cost of what they pay for housing. So you're really making around 2.0 to 2.1, but just paying for the recruiter fee.

The future of teaching is looking bleak if some of you are dumb enough to give in to this.

I won't pay a recruiter again. I've done it once and all it got me was a crappy job. But, what's a mere 500,000 won if the job is good and you end up with more money on the long run? Surely beats getting a job through a temp agency back home, who will take a cut of your hourly wage for the duration of the contract. I sure hope this isn't a trend, though. With the increasing xenophobia, they'll find out most people simply don't want to come to Korea...Wait a sec...scratch that... it might be a good thing. If fewer people come to Korea, it would increase my value as a qualified teacher. Kaching!

What makes this job offer a scam? The recruiter is not deceiving anyone. The offer clearly states the situation. It's up to the potential applicants to determine if they accept the offer.

It's a crappy job offer, but there's no scam involved.

Well then Derrek, please put where it states that 2.5 doesnt include housing. Please do. From what you provided, its logical to include that 2.5 is on top of free housing.

Anyway, its NOT a scam at all. Stop your complaining. All you do is complain and you see scams everywhere. Eveyrthing is out in the open, they arent scamming anyone, they are providing a service.

What I take from this:

2.5 million: Housing allowance included.
500,000 recruiting fee.

Again: Crappy offer, but not a scam. Applicants know what they are getting into before they reach the interview stage.
