Top official resigns over wife's property
In yet another case of real-estate transactions involving top government officials' wives, Choi Young-do, president of the National Human Rights Commission, said Saturday he would resign. Early last week, allegations surfaced that Mr. Choi's wife filed false paperwork to buy a lucrative piece of land. Mr. Choi admitted that his wife was involved in the fraudulent registration, but claimed that the purchase of the land was not speculative. Faced with rising public criticism, however, Mr. Choi announced his intention to resign.

Mr. Choi's resignation follows that of Lee Hun-jai, the deputy prime minister for the economy, who quit recently over allegations that his wife speculated in real estate. Mr. Choi was named to his position last December.

That depends on whether you would accept the phrase
"But it's under my wife's name" as a legitimate defense.
