you should go about it the way my irish friend does. get really hammered, walk up to a girl (korean) and shout in her ear "annyong haseyo!" as loudly as you can. if she turns away and tries to ignore you, she's probably just playing hard-to-get. the best strategy in that event is to try the same thing again. if she then gets up and leaves the bar, she's probably a snotty b---h and not worth your time.

the funny thing is that the night this happened, i kind of set it up. i saw two girls at the bar who had been there for a long time, longer than us. they started dancing with one another, and they looked pretty drunk. i figured either one of these two would have been good to go. i've got a girlfriend, so i told my buddy he ought to make a move. i knew he wasn't much of a charmer when he was drunk, so i expected something pretty funny from the encounter, but i had no idea it would be as bad as it was. good stuff.

I once tried to chat up a girl in OTwo by saying

"Nightclub kinka aniyo?"
which I thought meant something along the lines of
"Nightclub cool no?"

Have any readers had a more hamfisted second-language approach?

[the strange thing was that when she blatantly didn't understand I left it at that, then a bit later she came back to talk to me and said she was a gyopo. She then started lecturing me on why I shouldn't assume everyone can speak english.
"Umm but I didn't, I tried to speak to you in Korean"
"Yes, well you shouldn't do it anyway"
"But I didn't"
"Yes I know, but you shouldn't"
"But.."]

My favorite pick-up line:

One random weekend back in university my girlfriend at the time made a trip up from the city to hang out with me for a few days. After she arrived we decided to drop some MDMA and hit a local club in town.

After an hour at the club we were glowing, almost shimmering - feeling indestructible, when we decided to go to the bar and grab some water. My g/f got up to the bar and i stood behind her as we waited for a bartender to spot her (a hot chick will always be served faster than a guy, so this was always her responsibility).

Leaning against the bar was this guy who was utterly transfixed with my girlfriend. His eyes didn't leave her face the entire time we were standing there. With my superhuman MDMA powers I could literally read this guy's internal dialogue

"Oh god look at that one! Damn, she's hot!! Quick, I need something witty to say, but what??? Think damnit, THINK!!"

A minute later the bartender approached my girlfriend and she ordered two bottles of water. The guy at the bar suddenly perked up, leaned towards my girlfriend and said,

"So, you like water huh? Right on!" and gave her a smooth as silk, fonzie-esk thumbs-up.

I immediately moved in and said to the guy "Hey man, she also really digs food and shelter."

With that my girlfriend and I, as well as a half dozen people around us who overheard this little interaction, broke out in hysterics. The poor guy put his head down and skulked out of the club in shame.

I pray to god and hope that if the powers that be are smiling upon me that this guy has forever been emotionally scarred by this event.
