| Hi. I'm looking to purchase an Apple laptop here in Korea, and I was wondering where I can go (in Seoul) to find a good selection. I want the new G4 12 or 14 inch, but I want it formatted in English, not Korean. Also, how about trying to get a good bargain out of these shops. Any advice is welcome. Thanks. |

| There's an apple store at COEX, which is at Samsung station on line 2. I went there yesterday to buy a mini mac and they talked me out of it. Based on this, I don't think you can haggle. |

In the states, Apple pretty much sets the price for their new computers. Have to admit I don't know what they do in Korea, but I'd be surprised if it's much different. That doesn't leave much room for haggling.
Why'd they talk you out of the Mini? |

| There is no such thing as English or Korean OS X. It's multilingual. |

Yeah, what gives? Why would they try to talk you out of buying it?
To the OP - if you're serious about getting a Mac, wait until the new OS X 10.4 comes out. It should be out, if the rumours are to be believed, sometime in mid-April. |

There's also a Mac store at Yongsan. Its smaller than Coex though. Yeah, I'd say you should wait until the updated operating system comes out. It'll be worth the wait. It looks really cool. |

I misphrased that. The sales guy explained that the things I was most keen on, like Ichat, only worked if all the people I wanted to video chat with had a mac as well. Same with file sharing. Unless I misunderstood him, he said that file sharing was limited to very few sources for Mac users. Those two things cover 2/3 of my reasons for having a computer,so I abandoned the idea for now. I appreciated the honesty though. |

While I don't have any personal exp. with iChat, I'm fairly sure that particular program is limited to Mac users. But, as far as file sharing goes - I use Limewire, and so far, no problems (albeit, my personal filesharing needs are fairly minimal...) I can't see any reason why there would be any difference between a PC or a Mac connected to the same P2P network, if a file's available, it's available to whoever wants it.
Anyway, Macs and PC's have their own individual advantages and limitations. It's up to you to decide what you really want, and what you really need.
(but get the Mac) |

| iChat can be used if you have an aol screen name. it can also be used if you have a .mac membership. it also supports audio and video conferencing. if you want to use yahoo or msn messenger, there are no problems on a mac. |

Mmm ... thanks. I may yet become a mac owner. If the new operating system comes out next month, does that mean that the mini macs will be sold with that system immediately, or is there a lag time? |

You may want to check out http://www.mac-p2p.com/ for mac file sharing information...
I'm tempted by a minimac. Not cos I'd ever use it. Just because it looks cool. |

Even though the OS is multi-language the manuals and CD's or DVD fronts are not. I have heard some people have issues with some Apple apps not allowing english menus despite being set up as english. Which isn't a big deal but for new users could be an unneeded hassle
The Korean price for Mac's is higher than the U.S. or Japan for some reason despite Apple regulating prices world wide.
Limewire, bittorrent, hotline, carracho have a huge amount of Mac content everything and anything you could want. |
