| The thread reads "Kangnam apartment advice", does it not? I chimed in with a comment about the COST of life here, and since I live in Kangnam, I shared my personal experience. Then Saxlif calls me a liar, so I responded. Eamo also wrote about the cost of HIS place, yet I dont see you riding him. |
Because Eamo doesn't wax elitism and condescension when he talks about his job and abode, like in your response to Saxiif.

I believe you mean "Eamo doesn't wax elitist and condescending", but that's okay. I mean, not everyone can boast the same high standards of excellence and superior breeding as the Guru.
Chronic, I went back & forth on whether to post this, but I'm sure you know I'm just being a donkey's ass. And I figure this circus could use more than just the one. |

DW, why do we have to keep hearing about your gig and housing on a regular basis? You use it as a status tool on a board where many of us have better set-ups, yet you don't see us jamming it down the throats of everybody.
It's actually quite remarkable that you have this trend of making everyone aware of your job and housing, yet you don't offer a lick of teaching or lesson planning advice or starting threads on those subjects, despite you saying that you are a real teacher who preps so well and thoroughly, that you no longer have anything to do during your office time for the next several months.
If you really must lobby for respect and admiration here, why don't you pursue this need in something that is constructive and beneficial to others, like starting threads about your teaching methodologies or your experiences of incorporating TPR elements into the classroom, etc...? |
Hold on there partner. |

No worries. I figure if trying to build a rep had nothing to do with it, then I suppose you would have PM'd me about my misuse of a noun over an adjective. |

| Sounds like we can get the bathroom we want without paying a totally outrageous rent. We just gotta make our needs...requests...clear. Thanks for the info, all. |

I live in Gangnam, and I've got a reasonable studio apt. with western style bathroom (bathtub is a little small, but it's there). Paid 5,000,000 key money and 450,000 a month. I think you can find a place with a tub and such without too much hassle.
DW pays 1,000,000 a month with a 30,000,000 deposit and doesn't have a bathtub? That's funny. |
I dont have a tub but then again I prefer showers. |

I suppose what's "funny" are the rent levels in some areas, but hey, that's Gangnam. Builders of smaller apartments 'planning in' showers and not tubs to give the main room(s) more usable space -- that's increasingly the norm.
There may be something else besides space-saving (cost? aesthetics?) driving the decision to drop the tub. Many shower-only bathrooms I've seen in newer apartments look to the eye as though they could accommodate a typical Korean-sized tub.
And the bathroom of our second office (a 19- or 20-pyong officetel) had a surprisingly large shower stall that could easily have fitted a big Western-size tub. In that case, I think it's got to be aesthetics, as these units are legally considered "business-use" (and are classified and taxed as such). I've heard that according to (upcoming?) regulations, officetels henceforth will not be permitted to have kitchens. |

Seriously? No kitchens?! That sucks. |
