Fear not. You'll fit right in.

The list of qualifications needed to teach in a hogwan in Korea

1. 4 year degree. Doesnt really matter where from or what in.
2. Native English speaker, preferably Canadian(because we rock the ROK) although any other English speaking nationality will do. American, English, Irish, Scottish, Australian, New Zealand, South African.
3. Be able to withstand copius amounts of insanity and stupidity from Koreans(dont get me wrong Koreans are great people but it is kind of a Jekyll and Hyde thing when they open hogwans)
4. Be able to say the same English day after day after day until you ....SNAP Twisted Evil Shocked Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
5. Preferably being white(sorry but it is true)
6. Be able to eat Korean food....its great I love it....but I have met some people that dont care for it.
7. Be able to put up with isolation, both physical and mental.
8. Be able to not be offended when people stare at you like you are some kind of circus animal or weird alien. Little children and old people will pet your arm hair like you are some kind of exotic pet.
9. Be able to tolerate blatant racism...not on a daily basis, nor is it as blatant as some people make it out to be, but it does exist.
10.Be able to accept you are a minority and you have no say in anything that is going on.

If you have all these qualities/quirks/oddities then you too can become one of us Wink Cool

Being white and having blonde hair and blue eyes count for far more than having teaching experience or teaching qualifications.

Maybe I should get some of those contacts that change your eye color to blue.

Once or twice I've thought about how much of a pay raise I could get if I dyed my hair blonde and wore blue contacts. Plus it would open up a lot more job opportunities.
