Would you be angry if one of the other foriegn teachers at your school is teaching privates during school hours?

I asked to switch a class with my co-worker, and he can't because he, ugh... has, "an appointment outside of the building."

Basically, since we aren't supposed to leave our school without permission, and it was pretty obvious.... he's teaching privates during school hours. He has a few hours break between classes, and he's doing this.

All last year, I was good to him, and traded when he or his wife needed to.

I'm a little ticked about it.

Do you really think the teacher wanted that bit of information revealed over the Internet?

more power to him. Instead of languishing around with his thumb up his ass during split shift time he is going out and making the most of it.

Are you sure you arent a little jealous there Gollum>?

I don't care if people do privates or not. That said they should be done on a persons own time. Not while they are supposed to be at their own job.

Jealous? No.

But I will remember it next time he asks to switch something.

Why not help him out and see if he can help you out when you need it?

I agree that it would be nice if he were to return the favour, but as far as what he does during his time between classes...... well, that's his business.

So it's OK to leave the school... a government-funded school... when you are expected to remain at the school?

How about any other job?

Don't you consider it part of your "job" is to be HERE and available during certain working hours as written in the contract. At least it is written that way in ours.

actually the reason I'm angry with thsi sort of stuff is that like it or not we judged on the actions of other waygooks. If he gets caught then it's going to impact on the OP.

Would probably be fussed in that particular setting, but it also depends on why I'm asking for the class change. If everyone is expected and it's contractually written that everyone should be on premises during school hours, why is he even being allowed to leave in the first place?

However, if that isn't actually enforced, then he is free to do whatever he wants, in the realm of keeping educational goals intact. If I start a Hapkido or boxing class or start studying Korean during my break time and somebody asks to change with me and ruins my schedule, I'm going to say no.

Gollum, are you using this otherwise semi-legit conflict of schedule mask and hide your real, deep burning, unchecked possible greed or jealousy and just jumping on it in opportunistic fashion? It appears that way.

HIGHLY DISAGREED! But it does ring in line with the lastest cafe logic that foreigners should flog one another, via MBC assistance.

Nope it's just basic politeness. If you make a mess clean, it up. If you leave, pay your bills and cancel your contracts. Because your actions have an impact on the treatment of others. I know this is really hard for others to understand but there is a world outside of their own existence and if you act like a butt munch then like it or not, the koreans who have to deal with you are generally going to start forming opinons about you and these opinons will effect how the deal with whiteys in the future.

Ergo. If a guy is teaching privates during school hours and gets snapped then no doubt the school isn't going to be so happy about others leaving the school during schools hours even if it just to say pay a bill.

I can't leave my school early on regular days (I leave early as I teach extra classes) because my principal got badly burnt after a previous foreign teacher under his employ got busted teaching privates. Yes he's being unreasonable but he has to protect his interests.

You know, I'm beginning to think MBC is right about some stuff.

If the attitude of so teachers in Korea reflects the same percentage as the people who responded negatively about this thread, then I have absolutely no doubt that teachers here represent the bottom of the workforce barrel.

I get the feeling that some of you have no clue whatsoever about being a good employee or providing an honest days work. You're more concerned about the illegal privates you can pull out of your ass during working hours when you're supposed to be teaching at school than you are about much else. Somebody gives you an inch, and you take it a mile with no thought or care of holding up your end of the bargain.

Guys, flame away, but in my opinion, your work ethic sucks the big one. I could go into more detail, but I'll simply state that people with said disrespect for their job often don't keep their jobs for long.
