Greed? Jealousy? Of what? I get the same off-time as he does. My hours are just on opposite days. Also, I got a raise this year and he didn't.
What do I have to be jealous about? |

| I agree with Gollum and CLG. I mean, I wouldn't rat him out or even answer questions if asked about said offences, but I agree that the dude is being selfish and stupid. If he were to get caught, it would change the whole dynamic of the workplace. Gone is the trust Gollum has earned and as a loyal employee and who knows what else...particularly in the present climate of distrust. It's easy to "none of my business" until it costs you your job becasue they don't trust any foreigners any more. |

So it's OK to leave the school... a government-funded school... when you are expected to remain at the school?

Don't you consider it part of your "job" is to be HERE and available during certain working hours as written in the contract. At least it is written that way in ours. |
You are right that the guy should be there if it's in his contract........ but are you going to report him? I didn't say what the guy was doing was OK, far from it. I just said that it's his own business. |

No, no....I wouldn't, but if he's not there and my co-workers/boss are upset and wondering why, I'm not going to lie for him either.
I think it wouldn't be wise to directly tell where he is. Just say he's not there.

This is why you are angry.
You may think you could have switched classes if he wasn't leaving to teach privates but remember: He's under no obligation to switch classes with you and may have said no anyways. |

I asked to switch a class with my co-worker, and he can't because he, ugh... has, "an appointment outside of the building."
Basically, since we aren't supposed to leave our school without permission, and it was pretty obvious.... he's teaching privates during school hours. He has a few hours break between classes, and he's doing this.
All last year, I was good to him, and traded when he or his wife needed to.
I'm a little ticked about it. |
Are you 100% sure his appointment outside the building was teaching private classes? |

| My favourite kind of teacher is the one Myrddin had when he was a child, a Greek who had gambled himself into slavery and ended up being a tutor for semi-rich welsh kids. Myrddin didn't care when he went out drinking or gambling on a few nights here and there, and neither did he care when Myrddin had to sneak off and go to the cave to get some 'real' study done. |

Yes. After further inquiry, I am sure. But I have no plans to "rat" on him. Kind of an elementary-school word, don't you think? "Rat?" How old are you people?
But the thing I'm not sure about is who for, although I don't really care a lot. I'll post it here for lively discussion on the issue. I overheard some talking, and it sounds like it may be a private for another school employee who has a home nearby. It may not matter to certain powers here, then. I've been asked by 3 teachers to teach their children privately, and i've denied them all. The word is out that I won't do privates for them, so no one asks anymore. That's one of my rules.... don't give your boss anything they could use against you as "leverage" if you ever have a fight at the Labor Board or Immigration. |
