Lee Eun-ju Suicide Sparks Copycat Craze
Police have found evidence of a wave of copycat suicides after the self-inflicted death by hanging of actress Lee Eun-ju, prosecutors said Wednesday. The Seoul Central Prosecutors Office said analysis of deaths in seven Seoul districts including Jongno and Gangnam-gu from the beginning of the year to March. 17 revealed that there were 2.13 suicides a day in the 23-day period after Lee's suicide. This was 2.5 times the daily average of 0.84 during the 53-day period before Lee's suicide.
A woman in her 20s who hung herself in her room on the morning of March 1 told people around her that she had found a way to free herself from debt after learning of actress Lee Eun-ju's suicide, police said. The incident motivated police to analyze suicide statistics of certain neighborhoods in Seoul before and after Lee's suicide on Feb. 22.

A woman found how to free herself of debt after hearing about suicide? I'm not advocating that as a way to deal with one's problems, but what kind of hole do people live in, when they hear about a suicide and they're all 'I never knew someone could do that! Wow! Maybe I should try that, what's it called again? Suicide?' |

I was puzzled too by that nonesense. Sometimes when it comes to self hurt I'm deeply worried by some Koreans. Chopping of their fingers, setting themselves on fire, stabbing themselves, hurling themselves out of windows and off bridges, lemming fashion. It seems some learn by the mistakes of others rather than from them.
If the woman was in debt she was probably spending too much money on shoes, designer handbags, cosmetic surgery and generally keeping up with the kims. I don't have a lot of sympathy for her but do have sympathy for her family, what a selfish cow. |

Well, it is shocking to me that she didn't do what most people do when they are deeply in debt: run away to another country and never come back. Then again, people who commit suicide aren't normal. |

Sometimes I think babies should get a chip inserted at birth that only allows them to mimic positive behavior. |
