-It is impossible that anyone who looks Asian can possibility speak English, therefore it is completely OK to loudly bad-mouth the entire country in public.
-Koreans nation-wide are exulting due to Inchon airport's high ranking in a recent obscure survey.
-Korean children are vastly more conformist and fad-prone than western children.
-Koreans are telling the truth when they say that you're handsome.
-All Koreans are the same, and oh so very different from us.

- Koreans call us handsome because of their lack of adjectives.
- Korean children are spoiled and bratty, and over-pressured all at the same time.
- Korean men spit and pee in public a little too often.
- Hogwans are an absolute farce in too many respects to list.
- Something about insecurity.

Oh wait, you said *myths*...

- Koreans wandered around aimlessly until you stepped off the plane 8 months ago to set their society straight
- Koreans are forever talking about the mysterious waegooks and their endlessly fascinating ways
- people who watch KBS news do so with uncritical acceptance of the information presented to them
- Koreans deliberately misunderstand your faultless pronounciation when speaking their language
- Koreans are oblivious to the same faults you see in Korea

The hatred of the US that is rife in this nation forces me to conclude that this isn't a myth.

Dude....has nothing to do with the KBS news....try watching something that isn't CNN sometime. The world pretty much, by and large, is fed up with the United States pushing their way around the world. That big stick that you have is starting to lose itself up Bushie's rear end.

Seriously? Look at the way U.S. Citizens are treated ANYWHERE. Look into most travel guides, under where it says "sew a Canadian flag on your backpack to avoid troubles"

*shrugs* I don't hate the U.S. I'm apathetic at best towards a country that pretends to be for equality, that's all. Maybe I see without the wool over my eyes.

(And claiming that CBC did this to me won't work. Sure I watch CBC. I also read BBC, CNN, and watch the Daily Show.)

I have never been treated badly anywhere because I am an American. I will be going though all my Lonely Planet's tomorrow trying to find where it tells me I should sew a Canadian flag on my bag. First person to show me a reputable travel guide that does, gets a beer on me.

*shrugs* Sorry....you caught me. It's an old Canadian urban legand. Sorry...I honestly thought I'd seen it somewhere.

My apologies.

*abases himself and offers to buy a round for the Americans he's offended....once I get paid, anyway*

I met some girls who said they were from Canada when I was staying in a hostel in Europe. Their accents were definitely southern, and I wondered about it, so I asked them some questions until they finally broke down and admitted they were American, since some of my (natural & basic) questions were answered incorrectly (ie, 'what area of Toronto did you live in?' couldn't be answered).

This other time, here in Korea, when I asked this dude where he was from, he seemed to waver in eye-contact, and "confess" that yes he was an American... he looked at the ground, seemingly lost in internal agony. Both times I told these Americans that they shouldn't feel bad about being American, America's done lots of good (like defeating the nazis) and inventing fortune cookies, etc.

But please, Americans, don't sew Canadian flags on your backpacks. That's a bit silly. There's a great alternative at the following site!
