I know I have another topic on hair cutting, but this is worth its own post...
One of the girls at our school was told by the principal that she must color her hair black just like everyone else... despite that she has naturally brown hair just like her mother does. It's very light brown , actually.
She's Korean.
I have to think the family isn't very happy. |

I can't even imagine...what is up with Korean parents??? Good god...now I know why my husband says there is no way we could raise our children here.....if my child came home with a message like that...all holy heck would break loose! My children would be banned from every school in Korea if for nothing else just the fact that I was their mother...  |

| They need to threaten to sue the school for discrimination. That would put an end to the nonsense. Besides, forbiding girls to have long hair, and to dye it, is contrary to the CRC (Children's Rights Commission), which South Korea is a signatory (a little know fact the government does not publicize in order to marginalize teens). |

That would be a really good idea, it is crazy to let the school dictate what colour hair the students can have. I wouldn't be surprised to hear they can't dye it blue or purple something like that....but to tell you what "shade" your hair has to be...puh-leese....just when you think they can't take away any more individuality...  |

| I just talked to a guy I know from the ��������û (education ministry in Gangnam?) and he said that it wasn't permissible to make a person dye their hair if it's their natural colour. |

That's what I suspected -- it's not a "we insist on racially pure black Korean hair colour only" thing. It's a "no hair-dying allowed" thing, and this girl's hair is suspiciously light-coloured in the school administration's eyes. I'm very interested in hearing what the school has to say when the parents tell them it's her natural hair colour. Will they insist on meeting her parents in person to inspect their noggins too? Will they say, "We know that, but the other girls want to dye their hair and they suspect her of doing the same", or what!?

I heard this all second-hand from another foreigner here, but I am checking on the facts of the situation.
According to him, the principal didn't care when she said that it's her natural hair color and her mother's too.
Rumors can get all out of whack, so I'll look into the facts tomorrow. I know who the girl is. I took her phone on the first day of school because she tried to send a text during my class. |

When I was at school, a brunette dyed her hair black. Our headmistress reprimanded her and ordered her to wash her hair colour out. Unforntunately she used permanent dye, so she had to wait for her hair to grow out.
We all thought it was ridiculous... but what else could expect from a Scottish woman with RED hair, with a PhD from St. Andrews in Chemistry and was born in the 30s?!

She should shut up and dye her hair black. There are instances where moderation could be and has shown to be useful as in the wearing of uniforms with hair color being an extension of the uniform. So what if she has to look like everyone else.
I would not want to put up with a kid that that has a hair color/civil rights hammer. Its just another attention seeking scheme nusience instead of what I'm supposed to doing. Protect me from the combination game/pencil case stupidity that comes along with it and I'll come around a bit. |
