I was recently offered a contract in Gwangju, South Korea with a school called Readingtown. I was recruited by an agency called Networkorea (www.networkorea.com). Could anyone give me advice either about the city or the school? Is the school reputable? Does anyone know how to find more information about Gwangju or Readingtown?

I haven't heard of the school itself (I'd recommend asking for the phone # of teachers who have worked there before), but if you do a search on this page, you'll find a lot of information about the city. I live in Gwangju and like it, but not everyone feels the same.

Good luck.

I lived there for about a year, and yeah some good people down in Gwangju. Word to all you crazy muthaf....s - well you know. Anyways, so they make the place for the rest its not like seoul by that I mean its more Korean and it will probably be an intersting year. You'll enjoy it... but if you love big cities go to pusan or seoul. Thats my take on it, ofcourse anyone can have a totally different opinion on it.

Cheers

You're gonna be the first foreigner there, because they haven't had any to this point. Well, not white ones anyway, only Koreans who've been in America for some time.

The place is not your average hagwon, because the students are very high. Some or most of them have been abroad.

The teaching hours are around 20 per week, but there's a lot of preparation involved. You got to set the curriculum and schedules yourself. We are talking eight hour days here.

It's up to you. If you want to work, then I think you'll do well and have a good situation at that school. If you want something easier, something with less stress, then I'd steer clear of the place. There are easier ways to make 2 million a month.

I'm not surprised they're still looking or someone. They've been searching for months.

ReadingTown is a well established chain of schools with branches throughout Korea, Canada, and America. They have a website at:
www.readingtown.co.kr
It is mostly in Korean, but shows their entire network of schools.

As far as Gwangju goes there is a city website. Gwangju is known as the city of light and art. People always talk about the genorous people there and the wonderful food. THe website address is:
http://eng.gjcity.net/mainFrame.jsp
