How many times can you get a Korean to say 'Yo-bo-say-yo' on the phone when they call you (99% of the time, by mistake)?
Typical conversation:
Me: Hello?
Them: Yo-bo-say-yo?
Me: Hello?
Them: Yo-bo-say-yo?
Me: Yes, Hello?
Them: (pause) Yo-bo-say-yo?
Me: I'm here! Can I help you?
Them: Yo-bo-say-yo?
Me: You see the problem here, I'm speaking English, and you're speaking Korean.
Them: (talking to someone in the background for a minute) Yo-bo-say-yo?
Me: Yo-bo-say-yo?
Them: (new hope) Yo-bo-say-yo?
Onandonandonandon...
My record is eleven! See if you can beat it! |

it's immigration's new technique.
they're triangulating your cellphone signal to pinpoint the location of your private student's location.
and you're playing right into their hands. |

They do it to me on my home phone too... so i don't really think it's immigration. The most that it had happened to me was 5 times..
Him: Yobosaeyo..
Me: hello..
x 5
Then I said... what do you want. He went silent, then put the phone down.
I always find it very rude.

It's not quite the same, but there was this Korean woman who used to call my house most mornings, maybe three or four times a week, always around the same time, and the voice always sounded the same. After a couple of weeks I stopped answering the phone at that time, but she never stopped calling. This went on for a good four or five months until my schedule changed and I was no longer home in the mornings for a few months. A couple of months ago my schedule switched back, and sure enough the first weekday morning I was home... |

did you really think i was serious?
everyone knows that immigration's really new and foolproof technique is to wait for you to drop off your trash.
they pick through it for any envelopes and take it down to HQ for 'manwon ink residue analysis'.
they find residue...and your goose is cooked.
it's the smoking gun. |

What is also freaky is dialing the wrong phone number and getting someone one the other end who speaks perfect English.
Happened to me a couple of times with a guy while trying to call a girlfriend.
him: Yoboseyo
me: hmmmm (why is a man answering?) Can I please speak to So-Young?
him: I'm afraid you have the wrong number sir.
me:Is this 016 .... ?
him: No, you got the last digit wrong, this is 016 ...
me: Oh, I'm sorry.
him: Don't worry about it.
me: huh, ok, goodbye.

I know the game, but haven't played in years. Nowadays, if they call, and I get nothing but Yobosayo's in answer to my Hello's, I hang up after 3 of 'em. Three strikes you're out.
