You are not in Public schools to help them make money for whatever reason. That's an issue that needs to be resolved contractually. If students are paying for extra classes then you should be payed accordingly.

that woule be true.

As for approaches the way I go about teaching small classes is way different from my bigger ones.

However the bulk of my lessons have to follow a set routine. first up I see classes of 40+ middle school boys once a week (or once every second week in the case of the third years). I get to teach from the text book once every three weeks. The other two lessons I usually pick some parts of the dialogue (which is what i teach from the text book) and go over it in class. I generally steer away from group activities in large classes because I've found that it largely gives 90% of the boys an excuse to slack off.

you should have done what I did: told them what you're going to teach. I said: "I'm doing an advanced reading class for my extracurricular. All students who want to participate have to take an interview. Only 20 students will be accepted." Then I accepted them all.

They tried to hoist some crap conversation class on me, and I pointed out that it would be a waste of my expertise to teach low level students, something that would be more effectively taught by a Korean teacher. Best to give me the more advanced students and let me work em. They acquiesed. I'm going to make photocopies of a couple of Oxford Bookworms titles and run them through. Easy 100000 grand a week.

My two cents - just tell your principal that he is extremely well endowed (i.e. nod profusely and thank him kindly for his feedback and keen insight into your teaching and act happy and enthused by his comments) & then do absolutely nothing different.

I swear, with authoritarian males, this works a treat. Play him. Make him feel that his masculinity is engorged beyond unfathomable proportions and he'll be happy. he can walk down the corridors swinging his "masculinity" and you can roll your eyes beyond his back & stick your fingers down your throat as much as you like, but I reckon he'll be off your case!

I learned this lesson a while ago. Stroke the ego. Feed his perceived authority. Do whatever the freak you want Very Happy

So today I get dragged from one of my classes because the principal wants to see me.

Your students are not excited about learning english. Only 10 students signed up for extra after school classes. You need to change your teaching methods.

Last year he was complaining that my students in my summer camp looked too relaxed and they needed to study harder Rolling Eyes

There isn't a sane, well run working environment any place in the world.

so I find out why I didn't get many students. My school is charging the kids 40k a session whereas the other public schools in the area are charging theirs 25.

All my fault? When the school is charging 1 and half times the market rate. I don't think so.

If you've been around long enough to be a legend on this board and haven't seen that excellent teachers get shat on and fired for no reason, you must be spending an awful lot of time outside the classroom.

for 20 "teaching hours" (which adds 15 minutes prep into them). But a lot of my students come from broken homes so this really expensive for them.

Wow, my school is like 30,000 or 40,000 a month for extra classes... 2 times a week for 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. So I'm told.
