How long does it take to get issued a visa? I have left it in the hands of the school - and it has taken quite a while. Does it take about a month??

Is there any way to monitor or check that your visa is being processed???

Any help would be sweet.

The actual Visa takes one day to get in Japan. Your school does not get you a visa. They do the paperwork. bring it to immigration, Immmigration process the papers which takes usually 2 week. Your school picks up the paperwork, hands it to you, and you fly to Japan, or some other place.

If you are not in Korea, you do not fly to Japan. You get your visa at the closest consulate. After you send your paperwork to the school, it should take about 3 weeks to get approval for the visa and the document you need to take to the consulate or embassy.

Yes, sorry, for some reason I thought the poster was in Korea. Perhaps he/she is still in their own country.
But, the school does not get you the visa, you have to get that for yourself. The school does the paper work in order for you to get the visa
