to stop illegal teachers?

I mean come on! How easy would it be to just go onto worknplay and catch tons of Seoul area recruiters and teachers in one sweep. Teachers post their resumes their with pictures and phone numbers. The resumes often list illegal work they've done in the past.

I'm not saying I'm actually for this but, it'd be pretty goddamn simple if you ask me.

Apparently that's going to be in the works for their crackdown in June. http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=36011

It all comes down to who has bigger connections and who paid a bigger bribe.

Yes, stopping it would mean they also have to cut back on the amount of
bribes they take.

There are a certain number of old ajosshis (who can't speak any English) calling the shots on 2nd floor. They bribed my hagwon when it got busted 1 1/2 years ago. I can still point one, possibly two of them out. One of them is an obvious alcoholic -- red face and bloodshot eyes are a dead giveaway.

My guess is that they make BIG money off of bribes. HUGE money. My hagwon owner alone told me it was 3 million won that day to "go away!" They won't be out to truly stop anything anytime soon. It will take government measures from far above them to do anything about it.

Like I told my Korean friends... it's like immigration has filled a sink with water, and is now yelling at the water because it's overflowing: Bad water! Evil water! All water is evil! Damn you for overflowing!

If they truly wanted to stop illegal teaching, they need only to turn off the water by restricting illegals from the start. And that means tightening tourist visas, as well as doing background/degree checks.

But Koreans are content with simply yelling at the water as it overflows from the sink.

There will always be a percentage of people that slip through the cracks, but while they allow corruption to flourish within government then there will be a greater percentage of illegals. Plus the if I can't see it, it isn't happening attitude doesn't help either. Smile
