This would mean more openings soon. Keep an eye open on the Civ Perscom website!!!! |
Doesn't it mean people like waitresses and maids, construction workers etc will lose their jobs? |

I am sorry if I look like I am disagreeing but I am. It seems that the statement is that Korea has reaped what it has sown but that is not correct. The US military is seriously involved else where and doesn't have finances to support non immediate posts. Korea is one, regardless of what is said publiclly. They are losing their jobs because the US can't afford the costs. |

Here are some articles to back up the one from the KH.

And...
It is also not the fact that the US DOESN"T have the money to afford it, the underlining issue is that the US won't pay for it. What the Korean government fails to realize that a sizable chunk of its contribution to the Joint-Defense Budget is used primarily for the salaries of the KN workers. The US can now easily bring in more Civ workers and have non-Korean companies bid for some of the contracts (unless Korea is on the BRAC list, construction WILL NOT stop. And even if it was, The US would continue to pour fiscal money into these projects until the following October [Example- Germany, Panama and S. Arabia]) .
If one of the afore mentioned articles, Korea wants to play a role as a regional "stabilizer" (This is seen as a way of saying that Korea can easily change sides during any kind of conflict that work in its best interest)- right now, that means working with China and North Korea in the hopes of easing the tensions on the Korean peninsula, even if it means working against Japan and even the US.
This is also seen in the way the US is moving its wartime reserves off the peninsula. Why would the US do that if they weren't ticked off at the communist government now running South Korea?
So why keep troops and equipment here and also why pay for the workers of such an ungrateful country? |

What did I tell ya? Don't be surprised if they move out sooner than later. If they announce the cuts now, you can bet they've been going on for some time already. |
