Children hold up placards during a protest against distortions of regional history in Japanese textbooks in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of the announcement of the textbook screening by the Japanese Education Ministry.

We live in an era where the escalating divorce rate, alcoholism, anxiety and depression affect the psyche of every Korean in some way or the other. Just about every Korean suffers from soul-deadening mental, physical or emotional tiredness. Professor Chey would like Koreans to "look inside" and explore their inner worlds. When she returned from the United States nine years ago, she noticed a lot of anger and stress in Seoul. "Koreans tend to think the problem is caused by someone else, that it does not lie within the Self," she said.

"But first of all we must do complete self-examination
. Our history testifies that Korean people have lacked serious self-examination," he [Professor Rhee Dong-shick] explained.

Well???

Do not claim Dokdo.

Do not promote unfriendly behavior that causes anger or resentment on the issue of Dokdo.

Exactly.

Every holiday here in Korea seems to quickly degenerate into "victims' day," where some nation (usually Japan or America) is accused of being the reason for all of Korea's problems.

Someday I hope Korea can have a true national holiday were they celebrate their own country and it's many laudable achievements and take pride in themselves instead of demonizing another country.

What an odd picture. I have never seen kids demonstrate before. And certainly not about something they don't understand. How many onlookers understood the word "provocation?"

How can other countries be the cause of the ongoing dissastification with one's current life as a Korean now living in Korea, having negligible if any contact at all with foreigners? Sure they US and Japan have a lot of power. But how does that really touch my life day to day, at work, at home with my family etc..? I must be messed up psychologically to blame people who live in other countries for the trouble I cause in my own life, or my inability to be happy.
