Hi, all-
I have Windows XP on my laptop but I want to have Korean/Japanese/Chinese Microsoft Word (my university promised me that all fellowship holders would get a free copy of Microsoft Office Suite and then didn't deliver on it, but that's another story). I have an older version of Miscrosoft XP on my laptop now, but no Asian languages. Can I download these from somewhere, or do I have to buy it?
Thanks!

Hello, Taobenli!
I've never heard of a Korean Microsoft Word program.
But the Hangul 2002 program is so much like Microsoft Word that it is a wonder they haven't been sued.
To type in English, hit the toggle key next to the space bar and proceed.
To type in Korean, proceed as you would in Microsoft Word. To change a word to hanja, black it out with the mouse, click on Է in the overhead menu, then click on ڷ . This will give you a box to choose from.
To type in Japanese, hit shift/space bar, and write each word phonetically in Roman type. Each word will automatically appear in hiragana. To change a word to katakana or kanji, hit the space bar afterward. This will give you a box to choose from. |

You can get Korean Microsoft Word at the store.
You can also type in Hangeul with English Word just fine as long as you don't mind that the menus are in English. Spellchecking works fine too.
If you are using Hangeul Windows you are good to go.
If you are using English Windows, you mey need to download a Global Input Method Editor. You can see what IMEs are available by clicking the "Add..." button in the "Input Locales" tab of the "Keyboard" control panel (at least on Win2K.. it's probly the same on XP) |
