Can we expect to see less English ahgwons and more chinese institutes in the future?

... to a certain extent I'd say yes. There will probably be more Chinese hogwons in the future. But English will be the lingua franca of international trade and commerce for at least the rest of our lifetimes, I'd imagine.

... Korea does seem to have a serious difficulty in conducting diplomacy beyond their next election. Their leaders are constantly pursuing short-term goals, and the effect is that the country is chasing it's own tail in terms of international diplomacy, rather than thinking in terms of generations ahead like it should be.

... that may be one of the reasons that both Japan and China have so little regard for them, despite their economic successes. You can always count on the Koreans to shoot themselves in the foot every couple of years or so, the endemic corruption too weakens them internationally abroad. Many countries don't want to trade with Korean firms.

if/when North Korea collapses, Korea will find itself in a world of pain - financially, and almost entirely without international friends just when it needs them the most. I can already hear cries of 'poor abandoned Korea' coming from the general populace.
